While we’ve been busy with the new platform and products over at The Sustainable Hotel, our work continues. And this week it brings us to beautiful South Tyrol, where we’re visiting some of our amazing clients and preparing them for the upcoming high season.

It’s time to ramp up for what will be a busy summer season here in Europe, but let’s not forget to enjoy this time while we can! And for us, that means enjoying in a prosecco (or two) while we’re here 🥂

Let’s talk about (food) waste 🗑

It should come as no surprise that hotels are huge contributors of waste and food waste alike. Figures show that they produce nearly 289,000 tonnes of waste per year (1/3rd of that food waste), according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United States.

So here are our MAdvices on how to reduce your hotel’s (food) waste:
✔️ Ditch single-serve plastic by focusing on reusable and refillable items.
✔️ Work with local suppliers to reduce packaging in the supply chain.
✔️ Ensure you are properly sorting your waste and reusing what you can.
✔️ Implement food waste reduction practices like cooking to order and serving smaller portion sizes.
✔️ Eliminate the need for paper by printing out only what is necessary.
✔️ Use upcycled materials in interior design.

MAp achieves B Corp Certification ✅

At MAp, we help boutique hoteliers to get their sustainability initiatives off the ground. To practice what we preach, in 2020 we set off to achieve B Corp Certification, putting our own sustainability practices to the test!

Spoiler Alert: Two years later, we did it!

In achieving B Corp Certification, MAp has now joined nearly 5000 companies committed to doing business differently. We’ve also set a benchmark for ourselves to “walk the walk” when it comes to sustainability, underscoring our position as a leader in this topic for our clients!

It’s not always about winning that one BIG thing, but about those little wins along the way: gaining knowledge, trying new things, growing out of your comfort zone…

At MAp, we’ve had a lot of such little wins recently. Soon our very first online course, Developing Sustainable Hotel Concepts, is launching in partnership with Kordie. The Sustainable Hotel platform is up and running, with plenty of exciting new resources coming your way. And the list goes on.

Some of our winning tips:

✔️ Whatever it is, start before you are ready - because you are never ready.

✔️ Everything is figureoutable. Don’t let yourself be stopped when the first obstacle turns up (because it will).

✔️ Be crystal clear about WHAT you are setting out to achieve and WHY. Be flexible on the HOW.

✔️ Find the best people for your journey: be it team members, partners, clients. It’s always better together.
