Is beekeeping a hazardous occupation? In a new paper published in the Journal of Apicultural Research, Jessica Stanhope and colleagues from the University of Tasmania, Hobart, Australia, review the literature about the health outcomes of beekeeping. There is a suprising lack of published studies, but the authors identify studies on bee venom and propolis allergies (including anaphylaxis), and and Lyme borreliosis associated with tick bites while beekeeping. The authors find that systemic reactions to bee venom allergies were associated with a range of risk factors, but that the probability of allergic reactions decreased as years of beekeeping increased. The authors conclude that there is a clear need for greater research into the adverse health outcomes for the beekeeping population.

Iniciamos este año con una increíble noticia, Guatemala será la sede del "X Congreso Mesoamericano sobre Abejas Nativas"!.
Esta es la primera llamada, en la que les invitamos a participar en el este Congreso, ya sea como asistentes, en la presentación de ponencias orales y/o carteles, así como en cursos y en las actividades culturales que se desarrollarán. En breve recibirán más detalles.

A las organizaciones o personas individuales que quieran participar en la organización del Congreso son bienvenidos!
