The 'Leave No Trace' ethics underpin all our projects at NIGSA. Created in the US in 1994, the seven principles define how to use wild lands and natural areas responsibly, in a way which preserves them for not only the next visitors, but also for future generations. The seven principles are:-

1. Plan ahead and prepare
2. Travel and camp on durable services
3. Dispose of your waste properly
4. Leave what you find
5. Minimise campfire impacts
6. Respect wildlife
7. Be considerate of other visitors

Fresh from our chilly dip in the Estrecha Magallanes, the next day we headed for the hills for a great day of snow-shoeing in the forests above the city. We're really enjoying all this winter activity and are now planning a longer trip. Patagonia is a great place for adventurous team building exercises!

The winter sports excitement continues in the most southern city in the world, as tomorrow (Saturday) it's time for the annual sea swim in the Magellan Strait. At least 6 staff will be braving the wintery conditions alongside hundreds of people from the region. It can't be worse than swimming ice-cold rivers to reach a checkpoint can it?

Taking advantage of the long weekend in Chile, four members of the NIGSA team headed out for a long day on snow-shoes, taking in the elegant twin summits of Monte Tarn (840m) en route. This is a great route at any time of year, and one we can help you plan and execute if you're in the area.

It's a long weekend in Chile, so many of the NIGSA team are planning trips into the surrounding country to make the best use of it. With its rolling hills and forests covered by snow, it's a great time to be outdoors in Patagonia, an adventurers paradise!

In a months time, NIGSA will be presenting at the ESRI User Conference in San Diego, showing how we create the maps used by the teams in the Patagonian Expedition Race and on our other projects. We're really excited about this opportunity and our design team are hard at work creating a stand that we're sure will excite the delegates.
