Fowl pox
Fowl pox is viral disease in poultry caused by an Avipox virus. It is transmitted through mosquito bites, skin contact and exposure to contaminated scabs, feather feed , and equipment
Different types of fowl pox;
1. Dry Pox (Cutaneous): Manifests as yellowish bumps on unfeathered areas (comb, wattles, face) that turn into dark scabs. Low mortality rate
2. Wet Pox (Diphtheritic): Causes yellowish, cheesy false membranes or plaques inside the mouth, throat, and trachea, impedes breathing and feeding, leading to higher mortality
Prevention and control.
👍 Avoid poultry in high mosquito risk zones.
👍 Maintain good feeding and management.
👍 Implement good biosecurity.
👍 Administer antibiotic, and
vitamins.
👍 Control mosquitoes and always vaccinate birds with Pox Vaccine in risks zone, or if records of pox had ever occurred
