The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and the African Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET) co-hosted a Think Tank knowledge-sharing session on 24 July 2023 at the Africa Human Capital Heads of States Summit in Dar Es Salaam. The session focused on ways of mitigating poverty and skill gaps to drive economic transformation.

In his presentation, the Cabinet Secretary of National Treasury and Planning, Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u, emphasized that human capital is a crucial driver of growth, employment, and poverty reduction. He called upon all of us to focus on investing in early childhood development, quality healthcare, education, and social protection programs for sustainable progress.

At the Policy Round Table during the Summit, experts stressed the need for a multi-stakeholder approach to address learning poverty and skill gaps. Curricular development, internships, and resolving disputes through alternative means are crucial steps.
