🚨 Moral decay in our schools is no longer a distant concern—it’s here, and it’s urgent.
In recent times, Cameroon has witnessed a disturbing surge in moral decay across secondary schools, higher institutions, and university campuses. Videos circulating on social media show students engaging in acts that were once unthinkable in an academic setting: smoking in classrooms, violent fights among peers, sexual acts in school uniforms, and even threats against teachers with weapons. These are not isolated incidents—they reflect a deeper erosion of values that once defined our educational spaces. What used to be rare and shocking is now alarmingly common.
There was a time when schools were sanctuaries of discipline, respect, and learning. Uniforms symbolized pride, not rebellion. Teachers were revered, not threatened. Students aspired to excellence, not shortcuts. Today, that moral compass has been shattered. The values of integrity, modesty, and responsibility have been replaced by a culture of instant gratification, peer pressure, and digital notoriety.
This moral erosion doesn’t end at the school gate. It spills into society, breeding a generation ill-equipped for leadership, citizenship, or service. When students cheat in exams, they grow into professionals who cheat clients. When they disrespect authority, they become adults who undermine institutions. The result? A society plagued by corruption, broken homes, and spiritual emptiness.
At the heart of this crisis is the weakening of the family—the first school of virtue. Parents have become passive observers, outsourcing moral education to teachers, churches, or social media. But no institution can replace the intentional, daily engagement of a parent. We must return to the fundamentals: families that pray together, correct with love, model integrity, and teach the way of the Lord.
Let this be a turning point. Let parents rise again as the moral architects of their homes. Let schools partner with families, not replace them. Let churches speak boldly about righteousness, not just prosperity. Let communities hold each other accountable. And let every Cameroonian remember: the future of our nation is being shaped in the hearts of our children.
