Straits Times Singapore: PM Lee Hsien Loong to visit Chongqing and attend G20 leaders' summit in Hangzhou

Chongqing was one of seven cities in China to be granted free trade zone status on Wednesday, meaning that goods in the city can now be handled and re-exported without being subjected to the usual regulations and taxes.

Mr Lee will also visit CapitaLand's S$4.1 billion Raffles City Chongqing mixed-development project, which is located in the historic Chaotianmen area and the largest single investment by the real estate company in China.

Chongqing Connectivity Initiative (CCI), Singapore's third government-to-government project with China focusing on financial services, aviation, transport and logistics, and information and communication technology, is an ambitious infrastructure and economic development strategy aiming to connect 65 countries over three continents via an overland belt that links China with Europe, and a sea route that passes through South-east Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make his first visit to the city since the project’s launch, as part of his four-day working visit to China starting today 2 Sep '16, Friday.
