Why High-Rate Lead-Acid Batteries Still Cannot Be Replaced by Lithium Batteries: Safety Is the Bottom Line

In critical scenarios such as data centers, telecom base stations, and power protection, high-rate lead-acid batteries remain irreplaceable. The reason is simple: safety.

🔹 Lead-acid battery electrolyte is a sulfuric acid aqueous solution — non-flammable. Lithium battery electrolyte is an organic solvent — flammable.
🔹 Lead-acid battery thermal runaway temperature is around 300°C. Lithium batteries can enter thermal runaway at 150–200°C.
🔹 A local fault in a lithium battery can easily propagate into full-pack thermal runaway. Lead-acid batteries are very unlikely to sustain combustion.
