GSL ENERGY distributor has completed the installation of a 16kWh floor-standing battery in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

The project uses a single battery enclosure positioned beside the existing wall-mounted electrical equipment. The floor-standing design makes use of available floor space without placing the battery's weight on the wall, while keeping the overall layout compact and the front of the unit accessible for inspection and service.

For residential and small commercial energy storage projects, system design should consider more than battery capacity. Inverter compatibility, electrical protection, installation clearances, expected loads, and site conditions should all be evaluated before commissioning.

This Uyo installation provides a practical example of using a 16kWh battery storage system where floor space along the wall is available.

How to Size a Commercial & Industrial Energy Storage System๏ผŸ
Sizing a C&I battery energy storage system (BESS) requires more than selecting a battery capacity. The design should consider the site load profile, peak demand, operating objectives, solar generation, grid conditions, backup requirements, and future load growth.

Key sizing factors include:
ยท PCS power (kW): Determines how much power the system can charge or discharge at a given time.
ยท Battery capacity (kWh): Determines how much energy can be stored and delivered.
ยท Storage duration: Calculated from required power and operating time.
ยท Usable capacity: Accounts for depth of discharge, system efficiency, reserve SOC, and battery degradation.
ยท Operating objectives: Peak shaving, time-of-use optimization, solar self-consumption, backup power, EV charging, microgrid support, or demand response.

For example, a factory with a 320 kW peak load and a 200 kW grid-demand target requires approximately 120 kW of discharge power for peak shaving. If the peak lasts two hours, the required delivered energy is about 240 kWh.
