Ever had a moving head die right in the middle of a fast tilt?

A partner just sent me a video. A beam moving head light on the truss. The tilt motor was spinning, but the head wasn't moving.

We opened the yoke arm. A $0.80 cheap timing belt had snapped.

It’s crazy. A part that costs less than a cup of coffee just killed an expensive light mid-show.

I'm curious about your shop's maintenance routine. How often does your crew actually check the belts in the arms?
A) Every prep day (The real pros).
B) Once a month.
C) Only when we see "black dust" or it stops moving.

At our workshop, we only use fiberglass-reinforced belts. Because saving 80 cents on rubber isn't worth losing a client.

Let’s talk shop below, what’s the cheapest part you’ve seen ruin a whole show?

Some call it "Old-fashioned," I call it Accountability.

The trend in the lighting market today is fast: new models every six months, and "good luck" finding parts for the ones you bought two years ago. Many budget-friendly factories stop producing spare parts the moment a new model drops to keep their inventory costs low.

At my factory, we have a different rule.

I’ve seen too many production companies with "graveyards" of half-working fixtures because they couldn't find a simple original motor or a specific lens. It’s a waste of their investment and a headache for the crew.

We treat our classic models like family. Whether it’s a power board from four years ago or a housing clip for a discontinued beam, we keep them in stock.

Why? Because a professional relationship shouldn't end the moment the invoice is paid. If you trust us with your show, we owe it to you to keep those lights running for years, not just for a single tour.

We don't build "disposable" lights. We build assets.

How long has your oldest fixture been in service? Let's talk in the comments.

"Why did my main moving head suddenly point at the ceiling during the biggest song?"

A client called me with this nightmare yesterday. One fixture completely lost its position mid-show.

In the industry, it's called "losing steps."

To lower retail prices, some factories remove the internal optical sensors. So when a motor skips a beat during a fast pan or tilt, the light can't auto-correct. It just stays out of position until someone climbs the truss to reboot the power.

At my factory, we keep the optical feedback sensors in every fixture.

If the console tells the light to point at the singer, it points at the singer. Every single time. Who else has dealt with a moving head losing its mind on stage? 👇

You test a new moving head. It’s bright. The colors look good. You think it's a good deal.

But the real danger is always hidden inside.

When a factory wants to win a price war, they don't downgrade the LED chip. They downgrade the "boring" parts to save 10 bucks.

Cheap cooling fans. Generic pan and tilt motors. Flimsy DMX connectors.

The result? Your rig loses control mid-show just because of one loose connector.

A solid workhorse fixture is built differently from the inside out. For the LDs and rental owners here: when you use budget-friendly fixtures, what usually fails first and ruins your gig? Let me know in the comments:

A. Heat issues & loud fans
B. Loose DMX & Signal drops
C. Pan & Tilt motors failing
D. Power supply quitting

We refuse to play the endless price war game, and this 5-second video shows exactly why.

A cheap, loose DMX connector can crash an entire lighting rig mid-show when the bass drops. That's why every single fixture leaving our factory must pass the 𝗪𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁.

Plug it in. Listen for the solid click. Zero movement.
We don't cut corners on the "boring" parts, because 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆.
