Legal Updates and Business in China
1. Up to a 5-year residence permit may be given upon 2 continuous residence permits for work above 1 year each, or if you work for a well-known company or research institute as a management, technical professional, or R&D team member, a green card to be approved if conditions met.
2. Management and technical staff of a foreign investment company in China, their couple, and minor kids coming along can apply for a 2-year visa, which could be extended or renewed.
3. Expats could have up to a 5-year multiple-entry visa for business activities, which could be extended or renewed.
4 . A passport may not be kept for residence permit application. Work permit and residence permit are to be approved together.
5 . Expats to be allowed to change work location or receive education, with the same employer, no need to re-apply for the residence permit
6. China release 2 negative lists of cross-border service trade nationwide, for free trade zones.
7 . Encouraged business sectors for foreign investment to be revised; with benefits in importing equipment, income tax, land, etc.
8. Entities can share a business address. The branch company can use the same address as the headquarters company.
9. Self-built houses can be used for business; the company can have more addresses in 1 business license.
10. Encouraged business in Hainan increased by 33 business sectors on culture tourism, new energy, health care, aviation, environment, etc.
11. More tourism, modern services or hi-tech companies in Hainan can enjoy more preferential policies as encouraged business.
12. China to improve service, support for Foreign Investment (financing, staff, etc.), and Expats.

The new Company Law of the People's Republic of China was officially reviewed and passed on December 29, 2023, and will be officially implemented on July 1, 2024.
The updated Company Law has made revisions to many important issues, and this article will focus on the important provisions of the new Law regarding the shareholders' capital contribution obligations of a limited liability company :

The revised Company Law has made certain modifications to Article 47 of the subscribed capital system for limited liability companies, requiring "the total amount of capital contributions subscribed by all shareholders to be fully paid within five years from the date of the company's establishment" by the company's articles of association.

Article 53: After the establishment of the company, shareholders shall not withdraw their capital contributions.
If the provisions of the preceding paragraph are violated, shareholders shall return the withdrawn capital contributions; If it causes losses to the company, the responsible directors, supervisors, and senior management personnel shall bear joint and several liability for compensation with the shareholder.

Coffee market in China
The Chinese coffee market is projected to witness a CAGR of 10.42% during the forecast period (2022 - 2027).
The overall Chinese coffee market has been the least effective after the advent of COVID-19. As per the analysis, in 2020, an average of one new coffee shop opened every day in China's Chengdu City. This pushed the total number of coffee shops in the city to over 4,000, just after Shanghai and Beijing. Chengdu is the third-largest coffee market in China. Moreover, with the strict lockdown measures being imposed in the country, the consumers in China have been resorting to at-home coffee consumption, increasing the sales of instant coffee in the country during the COVID-19 times.
While tea remains the traditional drink of China, the demand for coffee continues to grow, especially in urban areas and among younger professionals. China is still attractive for investment

Beijing, January 17 (reporter Yang Xi) - Ning Jizhe, director of the National Bureau of Statistics, said at a press conference held by the Information Office of the State Council today that in 2021, China's GDP grow by 8.1% over the previous year, The total economic output reached 114.4 trillion yuan, exceeding 110 trillion yuan. Converted at the annual average exchange rate, it reached US $17.7 trillion, ranking second in the world, accounting for more than 18% of the global economy.
