In the to***co industry, all countries use their own classification of raw to***co (leaf), and standardization among agricultural technicians and to***co traders is different. Therefore, to simplify things, we use the following gradations. This is just our research, it is not universally accepted, and frankly, in our years of studying and working with to***co and communicating with industry participants, we have never come across a single standard that has been approved at an official "int" level.

1.Geographical Group: American, Eastern, Island.

The Origins of Ho**ah Culture in China. Lanzhou Ho**ah.

The culture of ho**ah smoking in China has a long and rich history, reflecting interactions with other cultures and changes within society. Its development has evolved from the Lanzhou Ho**ah (兰州水烟)to traditional (Arabic Sh**ha) style and then to the modern (Russian Sh**ha), fully adapting to shifting social and cultural realities.

Origins and Early Development of Ho**ahs in China.

In the 16th century to***co leaf was introduced to China.
By the mid-Qing Dynasty (1644–1912), smoking had become popular among all strata of Chinese society (https://www.zgbk.com/ecph/words?ID=741594&SiteID=1&SubID=257700).

During the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1736–1795), the Chinese scholar Lu Yao, in his work "Yanpu", provided a detailed description of ho**ah smoking methods, the structure of the device, and the various types of to***co used. It was during this period that ho**ah smoking became not only a daily habit but also an important part of cultural life. http://www.mastersart.org/index.php?a=show&catid=165&id=5810

Features of Lanzhou Ho**ah:

1. Ho**ah Device.
The Chinese ho**ah is known for its compactness and portability. Unlike traditional Middle East ho**ahs that use hoses, traditional Chinese ho**ahs were closer in form and essence to the Goza style. They were typically made of metal (mainly copper or brass) and consisted of a small water reservoir and a curved tube. This design was lightweight and convenient for travel.

2. Smoking Technique.
To***co was placed in a small bowl on the reservoir, and when smoked, the smoke was filtered through water, partially cooling it and removing impurities. This filtration method was believed to make the smoke cleaner and less harmful to health.

3. To***co and Its Processing.
In China, a special type of to***co known as *"huanghuayan"* (黄花烟) was often used for ho**ahs, renowned for its mild flavor and aroma. Before use, the to***co was typically fermented, and sometimes herbs and spices were added to enhance the taste.

4. Social Status.
During the Qing Dynasty, ho**ahs were popular among both the nobility and commoners. The ho**ahs of the nobility were made of precious metals and adorned with intricate carvings, reflecting the owner's status. Commoners and merchants used simpler ho**ahs made of copper or bronze.

5. Women and Ho**ah Smoking.
Unlike many other cultures, ho**ah smoking among women, especially noblewomen, was socially acceptable in China. Many noblewomen owned personal ho**ahs decorated with jade, silver, and other precious materials.

6. Rituals and Traditions.
Ho**ah smoking often accompanied important social events and became part of etiquette. In wealthy families, offering a ho**ah to guests was considered a sign of respect and hospitality.

Regional Features:

1. Gansu and Lanzhou Ho**ahs.
The city of Lanzhou in Gansu Province became a significant center for ho**ah and to***co production. During the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1912) dynasties, Lanzhou ho**ahs were popular due to their moisture-absorbing properties, pure aroma, and affordable price. At the peak of their popularity, there were over 140 ho**ah workshops in Lanzhou, making the industry a vital part of the local economy (https://news.ouc.edu.cn/2023/0725/c79a113664/page.htm).

2. Xinjiang and Ho**ah To***co Cultivation.
The counties of Jimsar and Hutubi in Xinjiang are considered among the first regions in China to cultivate to***co and produce ho**ahs. During the Qianlong era, a special type of to***co, "huanghuayan", was widely grown here, specifically for ho**ah use and supplied to high-ranking imperial officials (http://www.etmoc.com/culture/Looklist?Id=8072).

Influence of External Factors and Cultural Transformation.
The 19th century was a turbulent time for China: the O***m Wars and internal conflicts altered smoking traditions, and the popularity of ho**ahs declined. However, with the spread of ci******es in the early 20th century, particularly among urban intellectuals and businessmen, ho**ahs gradually lost their prominence. Nevertheless, in some regions and at certain events, ho**ahs remained a unique element of local culture.

Revival of Modern Ho**ah Culture in China.
In recent years, ho**ah culture has regained attention in China. In major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, ho**ah bars and lounges have opened, offering various types of ho**ah to***co and equipment. Ho**ahs have become a new form of leisure activity among the youth (https://www.globalmarketmonitor.com.cn/market_news/2871214.html).

According to forecasts by the research company Hengzhou Bozhi, China's ho**ah market is expected to reach 210 billion yuan by 2024 and continue growing by 2032 (https://m.chinabgao.com/k/shuiyan/).

Conclusion.
Over the past five years, ho**ah culture in China has undergone significant changes, transitioning from traditional smoking styles to modern ones. China possesses all the necessary conditions for developing a unique ho**ah culture, including advanced production capabilities and high-quality raw materials, opening prospects for leadership in the global ho**ah market.

In conclusion, it can be said that ho**ah culture in China has come a long way, demonstrating rich traditions and the ability to adapt to the changing times. Today, this culture continues to evolve, blending historical heritage with modern trends, which opens new opportunities for future development of "Chinese Sh**ha" 中式水烟(http://xhslink.com/a/YxR0unRcqfw8).

Traditional - Modern - New: ho**ah smoking styles, what are the differences? ZHONGSHI what it stands for?

What is the difference between Arab-Turkish "classic/traditional" ho**ah smoking style and Russian "modern" style?

The main significant events and innovations that have influenced the development of ho**ah culture and the transition from the classic style to the modern one are described in the notes, and they took place from the 1980s

So how is this style defined?
1. Ho**ah (device)
2. Heating method
3. To***co
4. Service (serving in establishments)

1.Traditional:
Copper, Brass, in some countries without a purge valve.
1.Modern:
Steel, Aluminum with a mandatory purge valve.

2.Traditional:
Foil, wood charcoal in some countries.
2.Modern:
Metal heating system (HMD), coconut charcoal.

3.Traditional:
Virginia, Orientals, often with added dyes.
3.Modern:
No-To***co blends or Virginia, Burley to***co processed at higher temperatures.

4.Traditional:
Ready mixes, or a small amount of solo flavors, without an individual approach.
4.Modern:
Mixology, taking orders based on strength level and flavor preferences.

What's next? Here is the most interesting part... There is a hypothesis - and time will tell. Let's call this style 中式水烟(Zhōngshì Shuǐyān) or "New" since there was "Classic/Traditional" and "Modern/Russian" before.

1,2.Electronic ho**ah with heating from an electric element.
3.Herbal or Herbal-To***co Mixtures.
4. Online Mix Constructor: aroma/association/direction.
