Studio Illumine is an international team of lighting designers with a passion for light, architectur It is about creating ambience though light and shade.

Studio Illumine believes that lighting is a vital element of good design. As such, it needs to be considered in parallel with the other design processes from the very beginning. Good lighting is developed through an understanding of the latest technology available, lighting codes, sustainability and a sense of the built environment. Functional yet beautiful lighting schemes result in meaningful lighting.

At SALOMON Beijing China World, movement is expressed not only through form, but through light.

Centred around a dramatic vertical installation, the store moves between metallic surfaces, glass, digital elements and more nature-inspired textures. Lighting helps define these transitions, sharpening reflections and structure in the more technical spaces, while shifting the atmosphere as the journey progresses through the store.

Rather than treating each level independently, the lighting creates continuity through the space, drawing the eye vertically and reinforcing a sense of acceleration, precision and discovery that reflects SALOMON’s performance-driven identity.

For Studio Illumine, the approach was about using light to support both architecture and movement, allowing the changing materials and spatial character to reveal themselves as visitors move through the store.

At HABIB Landmark in Kuala Lumpur, lighting helps define the elegant and refined character of the flagship interior.

The approach is intentionally controlled. Light sources are deeply recessed within the fixtures to increase cut off, reduce direct glare and create a more visually comfortable experience. This keeps the focus on the jewellery and interior details, while supporting the calm, premium atmosphere of the space.

The jewellery itself then introduced another layer of complexity. Diamonds and platinum called for cooler white light to preserve their crispness and brilliance, while gold required warmer light to bring out its richness. Integrating both within one interior required careful balancing so the different displays would not feel mismatched or visually disconnected.

For Studio Illumine, the challenge was to bring these contrasting lighting requirements together within one cohesive environment.

The result supports HABIB Landmark’s evolution from a more functional retail setting towards a more elevated flagship experience, one where lighting contributes to refinement, comfort and the presentation of the jewellery itself.

More than an automotive showroom, NIO House Live Wuesong, in Beijing was conceived as a place for people to meet, work, relax and spend time together.

Working alongside David Chipperfield Architects, Studio Illumine developed a lighting approach that strengthens the building’s transparent, box like architecture. Soft ambient illumination creates a calm and open environment, while focused lighting gives each vehicle a clear visual presence within the showroom.

As visitors move through the upper floors, the lighting shifts towards a more flexible and residential atmosphere. The café, lounge, studio and community spaces are designed to feel comfortable and naturally connected, supporting NIO House’s vision of a welcoming “third space”.

Even the children’s Joycamp introduces light with a sense of play. Diffused luminaires create visual interest while minimising direct glare, bringing comfort, safety and character to the experience.

From the illuminated façade to the spaces within, lighting helps unite architecture, brand and community, transforming NIO House into a luminous destination for both cars and people.

Every space at SUSHISAMBA Singapore carries a different energy, and the lighting was designed to make each transition feel distinct.

Kokaistudios’ interior combines Japanese geometric precision with the vibrant colours, textures and tropical character of Brazil and Peru.

In the Samba Room, concealed linear lighting reveals the sweeping 8.5 metre high bamboo ceiling, while spotlights bring depth to the greenery. The bar takes on a more expressive character through custom lighting integrated into its pleated bamboo frame.

The private dining rooms offer a quieter contrast, with softly illuminated domed ceilings and pendant spotlights focused on the tables. High colour-rendering lighting preserves the richness of the food and finishes throughout.

From the energy of the main dining room to the intimacy of the private spaces, lighting shapes the mood and gives each zone its own identity.

At C&F School, learning is imagined as a great adventure, one that unfolds through stories, discovery and play.

Within the Jade Children’s Pavilion, curved ceilings, walls and shelving come together like the pages of a storybook opening around its young visitors. Studio Illumine integrated concealed lighting along these flowing contours, allowing the architecture to glow softly while guiding children deeper into the space.

The journey continues into the Curiosity Theatre, where subtle foot lighting defines each step and adaptable lighting scenes allow the space to transition between children’s performances and quiet reading. In the classrooms, illuminated petal and leaf shaped ceiling panels appear to float overhead, creating a gentle sense of shelter while providing the functional illumination needed for learning.

Here, lighting does more than brighten the school. It supports movement, imagination and the changing needs of each learning environment, helping every space become part of the adventure.

At Tahota’s headquarters, light brings balance to a workplace shaped by contrasts, strength and softness, precision and movement, focus and reflection.

Inspired by the Chinese philosophy of harmony between humanity and nature, the interior draws upon the forms of mountains, flowing water and shifting landscapes. Studio Illumine’s lighting design supports this narrative by giving structure to monumental architectural elements while allowing softer layers of illumination to reveal their movement and texture.

In the grand lobby, grazing light traces the surface of a full height stone wall reminiscent of a waterfall. Concealed linear lighting follows the rippling ceiling above, while vertical illumination gives the sculptural staircase a rhythmic, cascading presence.

Across the workspaces, daylight, ambient and task lighting are carefully integrated to support visual clarity and concentration. The restrained lighting language maintains a calm, professional environment, while subtly illuminated artworks and architectural details bring depth and identity to the experience.

On the 24th floor sky lobby, warm timber, jade sand glass and views towards the surrounding mountains create a quieter atmosphere. Focused and unobtrusive lighting allows the space to shift naturally between conversation, contemplation and exchange.

Through precision and restraint, light becomes the connection between Tahota’s forward looking professional identity and the enduring philosophy embedded within its surroundings.

The project’s interior design by Robarts Spaces was recognised in the AD100 2025 awards.

Set within a 1920s Art Deco building along San Ma Lo, Kam Pek Market brings new life to a piece of Macau’s urban memory.

At Kam Pek Market, Studio Illumine uses light as a way of reviving the building’s social character, drawing from Macau’s neon streets, market movement and layered urban memory.

At the entrance, layered LED projections and coloured filters create a playful response to the city’s street signs and public market culture, turning visitor movement into part of the façade experience. Inside, warm functional lighting, soft halos through perforated metal ceilings, and carefully controlled contrasts help guide the journey from food displays to dining areas and circulation spaces.

Recognised with A&D Awards Excellence for Interior, Best Retail, and APIDA Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards Excellence for Retail, Kam Pek Market shows how heritage can be preserved, refreshed and re-energised through design.

Anto Steakhouse, New York

In a high-end dining space, lighting is not simply about visibility. It guides how guests move through the restaurant, how they experience each dining scene, and what they remember after the meal.

For Anto Steakhouse in New York, Studio Illumine’s lighting design works with the richness of the interiors by DESFA Group, from the curved front bar and Omakase counter, to the softly illuminated rice paper panels, Hibiscus feature installation and intimate dining areas.

Concealed linear lighting, focused accents and warm ambient layers help shape a restaurant experience that feels refined, immersive and quietly dramatic.

Awarded Gold in Lighting Projects at the 2024 WIN Awards, and a winner at the 2024 LIT Lighting Design Awards in the Bar and Restaurant Lighting Design category, Anto Steakhouse reflects how considered lighting can turn hospitality interiors into a memorable journey.
