How do containers stay locked on freight trains?

In railway container transportation, containers are not simply “placed” onto the wagon. Each container is mechanically locked onto the rail wagon through a system called a Twist Lock.
When the container is loaded:
🔩the corner castings align with the wagon locks
🔩the locking mechanism rotates into position
🔩the container becomes firmly secured to the railcar

Meanwhile, each rail wagon is connected through couplers, braking systems, and shock-absorbing structures that help the entire freight train remain stable across long-distance routes.

Usually the preparation includes:
✔ vehicle condition & VIN inspection
✔ container safety and floor condition checking
✔ loading angle, weight distribution & lashing planning
✔ EV battery status / DG compliance verification
✔ export customs & shipping document preparation
✔ photo recording, securing checks & final safety confirmation
