According to CCTV News, recently, a large number of dead fish have been found washed ashore at the Hachiken fishing port in Shima City, Mie Prefecture, Japan. The dead fish are so numerous that fishing boats are having difficulty navigating. Local fishermen are currently working on the recovery process, and as of the 14th, 85 tons of dead fish have been collected. This is the second occurrence of such an event along the Japanese coast within a week, following a similar incident in Hokkaido on the 7th.
Local fishermen have expressed their concerns, stating that it is the first time they have seen so many dead fish floating on the sea surface, and they are worried that more fish may die. They are concerned that the frequent occurrence of large numbers of dead fish in the short term may indicate changes in the marine ecosystem.
Japanese officials, on the other hand, have explained that the fish may have died due to lack of oxygen and it is not related to the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
