MJOPTC, a Chinese optical lens manufacturer, has officially launched an industrial-grade 5.2mm focal length lens with a maximum aperture of F2.6 and an 82° field of view, compatible with 1/1.8-inch sensor formats and supporting up to 12MP resolution. The lens features a 9G+1IR all-glass optical design combined with an eco-friendly metal barrel, achieving a compact TTL (tip-to-tip) length of 30.2mm, striking a balance between image quality and structural compactness. The core optical design of this series has been granted a national invention patent, establishing a proprietary technological advantage over similar products.Optimized for challenging lighting conditions and rugged environments, the F2.6 large aperture ensures ample light intake, while the 82° wide-angle view meets full-scenario requirements for both monocular and binocular dashcam applications. With anti-vibration and shock-resistant design, it is ideal for dynamic recording scenarios such as in-vehicle surveillance, and its waterproof construction allows reliable operation even in rainy conditions. All models in the series are waterproof and have passed IP67 and IP69K certification, making them suitable for long-term outdoor deployment. This lens delivers stable performance across various applications including drones, AI-powered robotics vision, smart home doorbells, closed-circuit surveillance, and industrial cameras. The all-glass optics and metal barrel offer excellent resistance to aging and UV degradation over extended use, helping maintain consistent imaging quality. As a source manufacturer, MJOPTC supports custom development based on customer drawings or samples, offering flexible interface and structural modifications according to specific project needs. Orders start from five units, with 100,000 units in stock, and delivery guaranteed within 15 days.

The focal length of a lens essentially determines its field of view. The shorter the focal length, the wider the field of view, allowing a larger area to be captured, but distant objects appear smaller. Conversely, a longer focal length results in a narrower field of view, covering less area but bringing distant details closer and magnifying them. For example, at the same mounting position, a 2.8mm lens can capture an entire parking lot, but license plates will appear as small patches; whereas a 12mm lens may only cover two or three parking spaces, yet clearly resolve license plate characters. In engineering practice, there is a rough estimation formula: Focal Length ≈ Sensor Width × Installation Distance ÷ Object Width to Be Covered. For instance, using a 1/2.8-inch sensor (approximately 5.6mm wide), if you want to clearly see a lane about 3 meters wide from a distance of 10 meters, the required focal length would be approximately 5.6 × 10 ÷ 3 ≈ 18.7mm—so either a 16mm or 20mm lens would work well. If the goal is to clearly identify facial features, assuming a face width of 0.5 meters, a longer focal length would be needed at the same distance.

Installing surveillance cameras on moving platforms—such as buses, freight trucks, passenger cars, and construction vehicles—is entirely different from mounting security cameras on walls. Vehicles are constantly subjected to vibrations and shocks while in motion. If the lens assembly isn’t sturdy enough, the footage will be shaky, blurry, or even suffer from focus shift, rendering the entire surveillance system ineffective. The primary requirement for lenses in vehicle-mounted applications is “stability.”Vibration won’t break a lens immediately, but it will gradually loosen its internal structure. The spacing between the lens elements is measured in micrometers; high-frequency vibrations during vehicle operation cause the retaining rings and spacers that hold the elements in place to gradually shift slightly. Once the position of the lens elements changes, the focal length changes, and the image becomes out of focus. In more severe cases, the lens elements themselves may become misaligned due to impacts, resulting in one side of the image being clear while the other is blurry. This damage is irreversible and can only be repaired or replaced by returning the unit to the manufacturer.Vibration resistance isn’t simply a matter of tightening the screws a little more. It requires addressing the issue from the very beginning of the structural design. Critical lens groups employ multiple locking mechanisms to avoid the risk of loosening associated with single-point mounting. Elastic damping materials inside the lens barrel absorb high-frequency vibration energy, reducing the transmission of vibrations to the optical elements. Some designs intended for heavy-duty vehicles also incorporate internal reinforcement structures to enhance overall rigidity. After assembly, each lens undergoes vibration and impact tests simulating vehicle operation to confirm that optical performance remains unchanged within specified frequency and acceleration ranges.

If AI recognition is still performing correction preprocessing for image distortion, this lens can help you skip this step. With a 9G all-glass structure, a 1/1.8" large sensor, a 100° wide-angle field of view, a 5mm focal length, and a zero distortion design, the edges of the picture's straight lines remain straight. The algorithm directly uses the original image, making recognition faster and more accurate. It can withstand a temperature of 85°C, and can also withstand harsh industrial environments.

The requirements for glass lenses in monitoring and automotive applications can be seen as a test.
The surveillance camera needs to work continuously outdoors for several years, and the car mounted camera needs to maintain a locked target in vibration and temperature differences. The two have one thing in common: once installed, there is no opportunity for frequent calibration. The value of glass lenses in this scenario lies not in their peak performance at the factory, but in their ability to capture images even after being released for several years. UV irradiation does not cause yellowing, humid and hot environment does not mold, and temperature changes dramatically do not shift the focus - these may sound like basic requirements, but it is not easy to achieve solid results. At the design level, infrared confocal is a necessary option for surveillance lenses, while in vehicles, there is an additional requirement for focal plane stability at high and low temperatures. A lens that can do both of these things at the same time cannot do without coating, structure, and glass material selection.

The core advantage of glass lenses: stability is the ultimate benchmark.

The fundamental reason glass lenses are irreplaceable in high-end applications such as industrial, automotive, and security systems is just two words: stability. First is thermal stability.

The coefficient of thermal expansion of glass is much lower than that of plastic. Within a temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, the curvature radius and thickness of glass lenses change very little, making focal point drift unlikely. This property enables automotive cameras to clearly capture distant targets even after prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Next is optical stability. Glass has a low refractive index variation with temperature, and when combined with an appropriate structural design, it can effectively control image quality degradation caused by thermal drift. This advantage is particularly critical in applications such as infrared confocal imaging and precision measurement, where focal accuracy requirements are extremely high.

Finally, there's long-term stability—also known as durability. Glass lenses do not yellow, become brittle, or suffer reduced transmittance over time due to UV exposure and humid heat, as plastic lenses often do. A high-quality glass lens will maintain solid image quality even after several years of use.

Once there is fog inside the lens, even the highest resolution is useless. Car mounted cameras not only need to withstand vibrations and impacts, but also maintain stability in the intense temperature and humidity changes from humid rainforests to high-altitude snowy plains. True reliability design, from moisture-proof treatment at the edge of the lens to the selection of breathable film and sealing of the housing, every step is to prevent water v***r from entering the inside of the lens.

No matter how beautiful the MTF at room temperature is, it cannot withstand the focal drift after one high and low temperature cycle. The core of in car optics is not peak performance, but "predictability" over the entire temperature range and lifecycle. When your camera can accurately recognize pedestrians 100 meters away even after exposure to sunlight, that is where the design experience value lies.
