Inside the Vidalido Tent Factory

How is a Vidalido tent manufactured and delivered to campers?

Vidalido started as a tent factory. Since its establishment in 2012, we have never stopped our R&D efforts. From selecting fabrics and components to designing the pole structure, from studying manufacturing processes to perfecting every detail, we imbue our outdoor tents with their original vitality and an unwavering commitment to quality. We have always believed that the most important thing is to uphold craftsmanship in manufacturing.
Initially, we primarily handled OEM orders for Taiwanese, Japanese, and Korean brands, producing the refined camping tents that were rarely seen in the domestic market at the time. After launching the "Vidalido" brand, our focus shifted to park instant tents. These feature semi-automatic poles, allowing setup with a simple pull and lift – a convenience campers appreciate for effortless, burden-free outings.

By 2020, the outdoorsy lifestyle had captured the interest of a wider audience, becoming a popular choice for weekend and holiday getaways. Our park tents, priced under a thousand yuan, repeatedly sold out, necessitating a pre-sale model. The memory of our automatic teepee tents being fully booked before shipment remains vivid. Even amidst surging demand, we were unwilling to outsource production to third-party manufacturers, as we found it difficult to find workshops as meticulous about details as our own. Later, we expanded our original factory and established a Longyan branch to increase capacity. The workshop space alone covers 12,000 square meters, achieving an annual production value reaching the hundreds of millions.
On our tenth anniversary, we launched manually pitched tents for advanced users: the "Sunrise/Sunset" geodesic dome, the "Horizon" and "Aurora" tunnel tents, and the "Ridge" fire lounge tent, among others. We aim to accompany campers from entry-level to advanced stages, until camping becomes an integral part of their lives, with us remaining the manufacturer of reliable, comfortable, and user-friendly gear.

This article documents our visit to the factory workshop, tracing the workflow. From cutting fabric panels to sewing, from design and prototyping to delivery into the customer's hands, every seemingly mechanical step is infused with our warm dedication.

-

Tent sample room

Upon entering the factory, the sample room immediately draws attention. New products under development and prototyping are set up here for display and discussion on optimizations. Designers meticulously consider every detail suggested by camping enthusiasts for improvement: the cotton fabric "Ridge" tent, multi-sized lightweight tents, extension parts for cabin tents, and even air tents.
For our designers, creating the ideal product isn't the hardest part; the challenge lies in ensuring players love it too, striking a balance between market needs and innovation.

-

Cutting and sewing workshop

The choice of fabric largely determines a tent's positioning and usage scenarios: silicone-coated nylon, wear-resistant Oxford cloth, titanium-silver coated polyester, breathable TC cotton. If the pole structure is the tent's skeleton, then the fabric is its flesh and blood.
Once the fabric is finalized, pattern makers bring printed designs to the cutting workshop. Here, fabric rolls are repeatedly spread out, smoothed, layered, and cut according to the patterns into the corresponding tent panels.

In the sewing workshop, the cut panels are stitched according to the designs into complete inner and outer tents. This stage also includes attaching zippers, webbing straps, snap fasteners, and other components, as well as applying waterproof tape to the seams.

-

Quality re-inspection and assembly

The workshop supervisor notes that quality re-inspection is a crucial, though often overlooked, step. Every sewn inner and outer tent is hoisted and fully unfolded to check for neat stitching and complete components. Only after passing quality checks are they neatly folded and transported in stacks to the assembly workshop.

The assembly workshop is the final step before shipment: packing the tent fabric, poles, pegs, and other accessories into boxes. For automatic instant tents, the semi-automatic poles are first hoisted and unfolded, and the inner tent fabric is installed before final packing.

-

Tent Garage

Our warehouse occupies a full half of the factory space, used for storing fabrics, components, and finished tents. Goods are categorized by item, size, and color, neatly stacked on wooden pallets, and moved between shelves via forklift, one pallet at a time.
Those with a penchant for order would likely appreciate the Vidalido tent factory. The warehouse, office areas, and production workshops are kept clean and dust-free. All staff change into indoor slippers upon entering, and cleaning occurs multiple times daily. The warehouse layout and assembly lines are all orderly and systematically arranged.

-

The rooftop live broadcast room

We have set up tents of various sizes on the rooftop terrace, arranged in neat rows. Tents belong under open skies, where one can truly feel the shelter they provide amidst nature.
In tent development, weather resistance (wind and rain performance) is the primary consideration, determining the locations we can explore and the conditions we can withstand. Prototype tents undergo over four weeks of exposure testing on the rooftop, enduring wind, sun, and rain.
After sunset, the rooftop transforms into a live-streaming space for tents, where we explain their features and designs to campers via mobile screens. Xiamen's summers often bring typhoons and heavy rain. Sometimes, unexpected weather changes prevent us from clearing the tents in time, inadvertently providing real-world "testing" of different tents' performance in severe conditions.

-

The condensation of ingenuity and persistence

From a single drawing, a piece of fabric, a pole, to the final boxed product delivered into the hands of campers, we understand deeply that this is more than just the flow of a product; it's the transfer of trust and expectation. We insist on refining every detail within our factory, so that the moment the tent is pitched in the wild, it becomes your secure "home away from home," ready to face wind, frost, rain, and snow.
With over a decade dedicated to manufacturing, Vidalido firmly believes: Well-made tents, built by ourselves, bring peace of mind. Whether you are a newcomer tasting the joys of camping for the first time or an advanced enthusiast pursuing wilderness experiences, we hope to use this "warm dedication," born in our factory, to accompany you through more campsites and hold more scenery for you. Let camping truly become the indispensable poetry and distant horizon in your life.

New Bedroom Tent | StarDorm, A New Module for Ridge/StarCity

When the city skyline gives way to a starry wilderness, a tent becomes more than just shelter—it's a bridge for dialogue between humanity and nature. From solo campers to families and groups, the spatial limitations of a tent often confine inspiration within a few square meters.
This is why we designed the StarDorm. It serves as a bedroom module within the collaborative camping ecosystem of the Ridge and StarCity series, while also functioning as a standalone one-room shelter for those seeking solitude amidst the mountain mists.

-

As a bedroom, it is stable and spacious enough

As an extension bedroom tent, we aimed for it to be more stable and spacious than typical inner bedrooms hung inside large tents.
With overall dimensions of 320*260*180cm (LWH), it offers 8.3 sqm of sleeping area, capable of accommodating up to two 1.5-meter double beds. The 1.8-meter internal height allows most women to stand upright inside. Furthermore, the hemispherical design enhances space efficiency, making it exceptionally roomy for a bedroom tent.
The tent features a robust frame with 4 poles of 11mm diameter and 3 poles of 9.5mm diameter, crafted from 7-series aluminum alloy. The cross-shaped dome structure enhances stability and wind resistance, capable of withstanding winds up to Force 7. The outer canopy utilizes the same 75D Oxford fabric as the Ridge and StarCity tents. To ensure better sleep for campers, we applied a 'Bean Green' coating with a 50% light-blocking rate. The inner tent is made from lightweight and breathable 190T Taffeta. All doors and windows feature a dual-layer design with solid fabric and high-density mesh panels to effectively block insect intrusion.
To minimize condensation caused by humidity and temperature differences during nights outdoors, we incorporated numerous, generously sized mesh windows on both the top and sides. Closing the outer canopy at night, along with the snow skirt, helps reduce cold air ingress. Simultaneously, the top vent of the inner tent allows warm air generated by occupants to escape, effectively reducing interior condensation and ensuring a dry, comfortable sleeping experience.

The shared expansion account of the ridge and the star city

Over the past two years, the modular connection possibilities of the hexagonal Ridge tent have gained popularity among camping enthusiasts. We have designed various accessories for the Ridge—including canopies, vehicle attachment tents, and bedroom tents—to enhance its functionality for diverse camping scenarios. We frequently receive photos from users showcasing their creative Ridge connection setups.

Similarly featuring modular connectivity is the StarCity living room tent, launched last year, which we envisioned as a "wilderness gathering space" for various tents.
When designing an extension bedroom tent for the StarCity, our goals were spaciousness, stability, and comfort, aiming to recreate a sense of "home warmth" in the wild. This extension bedroom tent is equipped with two types of connection doors, enabling seamless integration not only with the StarCity but also a perfect fit with the Ridge.

-

Alone VS socialising, free to receive and release

For beginners, the first step in choosing gear is identifying your outdoor needs: the climate across seasons determines the fabric material, the mode of travel influences the tent's size and weight, and the number of people dictates the required dimensions.
Often, campers find themselves needing two entirely different tents—one for solo trips and another for group outings. The StarDorm is our solution to this dilemma.
The StarDorm is not just an extension tent; it's also a standalone tent with a self-supporting structure, suitable for 1 to 4 people. When we discuss camping, we are essentially seeking a balance between urban life and nature—switching between city and wilderness, between solitude and socializing.
"Blending with nature" and "tent sharing" should never mean sacrificing comfort or privacy, but rather finding a harmonious way to coexist that feels effortless.

Perhaps true "glamping" lies not in conquering the heights of nature, but in finding the scale for symbiotic existence with all things. When we deconstruct the boundaries of a tent, what we assemble is not merely physical space, but a covenant of coexistence—between people, and between humanity and nature.

Lightweight Tents: Journey Into the Heart of Nature

Before winter arrives, we are launching two new 3.5-season lightweight tents: the YunYi and the TenYi. Utilizing lightweight fabrics, poles, and stakes, with an inner tent width of 1.35 meters, the YunYi weighs 1.85 kg, and the TenYi weighs 1.80 kg. Lighter gear allows you to travel farther. The essence of lightweight design lies in enabling effortless mobility, unrestricted by transportation, to reach the depths of nature.
The YunYi and TenYi feature two distinct structural designs. The YunYi employs a three-pole cross structure, while the TenYi utilizes a dual-Y integrated structure. We have meticulously refined these structures, incorporating pre-set shapes to increase interior space, enhancing freedom of movement inside the tent, and giving the tents a fuller, more robust profile.
All tent poles are constructed from lightweight 7-series aluminum alloy, reducing the burden of your camping load. These poles are flexible yet resilient, connected via three-way joints for support, working in concert with attachment points to create a highly tensioned and stable support structure. This achieves an optimal balance of stability, durability, and lightweight performance.
As carefree as drifting clouds, as light as having wings – this embodies the meaning behind the names "YunYi" and "TenYi."
With nearly 3 square meters of interior space and a 1.1-meter height, the top cross pole expands the internal volume, comfortably accommodating two people for overnight stays, or offering even more spacious comfort for solo adventures. Sit upright with ample room to stretch your back. Hiking boots, packs, and clothing can be conveniently stored in the vestibule or inside the tent. Two conveniently located lantern hanging points and storage mesh pockets are within easy reach.
Features a dual-door design on both the inner and outer tents for cross ventilation. The top of the inner tent is made of mesh. The gap between the inner and outer tents is generous. Condensation formed by rising warm, moist air from breathing will run down the outer tent, helping to keep the interior feeling fresh and dry.

15D Silicone-Coated Nylon
The Embodiment of Softness and Ultra-Lightweight Performance

The primary demands for backpacking gear are, first, ultra-light weight, and second, comfort. Choosing the right fabric is crucial for reducing tent weight. We carefully evaluated canopy materials, balancing weight, waterproofness, and durability.
The YunYi and TenYi are available with two optional outer tent fabrics: 15D Silicone-Coated Nylon and 210T Polyester Taffeta.

○ "D" stands for "Denier," a unit indicating fiber thickness. A lower number signifies a finer fiber.
○ "T" (Thread Count) refers to the number of warp and weft threads per square centimeter, indicating fabric density.
Ultra-Light Version: The outer tent utilizes 15D silicone-coated nylon with a hydrostatic head (HH) rating of 2500mm+. The tent floor, requiring higher waterproof performance, uses 20D fabric with an HH rating exceeding 5000mm. This fabric is fine, thin, lightweight, waterproof yet breathable, and slightly translucent.
Comfort Version: The outer tent uses 210T polyester taffeta with a PU waterproof coating, offering an HH rating of 4000mm+. This fabric is comparatively more robust, abrasion-resistant, and less prone to damage.

Setup and Care Guide

How to Care for Your Lightweight Tent
01 Choose an appropriate setup location, avoiding rocks and branches where possible. Use a footprint to protect the tent floor.
02 Pitch the tent correctly. Avoid over-stretching the fabric and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
03 If cleaning is necessary, use clean water or a mild soap solution. Rinse thoroughly to ensure no soap residue remains.
04 After overnight use where condensation occurs, or after cleaning, ensure all components – inner tent, outer tent, footprint, and other parts – are completely dry before packing away.
05 Store the tent in a cool, dry place.

Embark on Your Exploration Now

The wilderness has its own philosophy. Mountains and seas possess a spirit; for millennia, humans have coexisted with nature. Rather than saying we love nature, it's more accurate to say we love the free, omnipresent essence it represents.
Retreat into your personal one-room shelter. Inside is your three-square-meter bedroom, while outside lies an infinitely vast living room. In this moment, let's breathe slowly and relax our minds.

Horizon 2.0 | Home Comfort, Grown from Nature

Three years ago, Vidalido launched the 'Horizon' tunnel tent, which we called a "mobile home." Its spacious one-bedroom, one-living-room structure encompassed cooking, dining, relaxing, and sleeping—all within a single tent—allowing families of 4-5 to comfortably spend their camping time immersed in nature.
Time is the best designer. Over the past three years, we have gathered feedback from campers and noted every minor inconvenience and expectation. The needs of Chinese campers have become increasingly clear through the changing seasons. Thus, the 'Horizon 2.0' was born. It remains a tunnel tent, that familiar silhouette of "home," yet has grown more considerate and composed in its details.

New lobby design, continuing the module combination
A home is never a static container. Understanding this, the 'Horizon 2.0' features a specially designed vertical front door and pre-set interfaces for expansion modules.
Currently under development and testing are expansion modules, including an extension tent and a canopy. When connected to the main tent, these can expand the vestibule or outdoor activity space, serving as a larger living or dining area to accommodate more friends or family members. The extension tent can provide an independent and secure sleeping space for 2-3 people, effectively creating a dual-bedroom integrated tent.

Furthermore, the triangular area of traditional vestibules is often underutilized. The vertical front door signifies higher space efficiency. The vertical TPU front door also reduces light reflection, offering a wider, clearer view. When night falls, hang a projection screen, and the living area transforms into an outdoor cinema.

Frame and fabric: light, stable, breathable
The stability of a home stems from a solid foundation. The 'Horizon 2.0' retains its integrated design, significantly reducing setup time. It continues to use the 7-series aluminum alloy交叉杆结构 (Cross-Pole Structure), which not only ensures excellent wind resistance and stability but also makes the pitching process effortless—simply erect the main交叉杆s, and the tent stands on its own.

The outer fly has been completely renewed. The main fabric is 210T Polyester Taffeta, coated with a super water-repellent PU coating. This makes the fabric lighter, more translucent, while maintaining good waterproofness and durability. When morning light filters through the fabric, a soft glow fills the tent instead of harsh glare.
The roof incorporates a blackout coating, providing up to 80% shading, effectively blocking intense sunlight to create a cool, comfortable microclimate inside the tent. You won't be woken up by the sun in the morning.

Made with 210T Polyester Taffeta, lightweight and translucent

The number of doors and windows on the outer fly has been increased to 4 doors and 6 windows, with each window's area enlarged for better ventilation. Four roof vents allow you to bask in the winter sun inside the tent or gaze at the stars at night. All doors and windows continue the classic dual-layer fabric design—one layer of mesh and one layer of solid fabric—providing ventilation while keeping insects out.

4 Doors, 6 Windows, Excellent Ventilation

Newly added firewood heating/air conditioning port and chimney port
Adapt to the four seasons across the north and south

China's vast territory means campers may experience vastly different seasons and climates. The 'Horizon 2.0' considers this thoroughly, featuring newly added ports for diesel heater/air conditioner connections, compatible with most diesel heating/cooling devices on the market. Whether facing the bitter cold of northern winters or the humid heat of southern summers, the tent maintains a pleasant interior temperature, truly enabling comfortable camping year-round.
Both the outer fly and inner tent feature dual port designs. This means diesel heaters or cooling units can be placed either in the living area or outside the tent. The ports on the outer fly are specially designed with small awning flaps above them, allowing safe use of heaters/coolers even in rainy weather.

A stove jack/chimney outlet has also been added. For autumn and winter camping, using a wood-burning stove for warmth is common. It comes with a detachable heat shield made of flame-retardant fiberglass material, resistant to curling from high heat. You can trim it to fit your stove pipe diameter for flexible use.

More spacious and square hanging inner tent
The bedroom is a haven for rest. The 'Horizon 2.0' inner tent dimensions have been upgraded to 310×240×180cm. Furthermore, by adjusting the angle of the rear door, the inner tent space becomes more rectangular, significantly improving space utilization—it can now accommodate up to two double beds. The fabric uses breathable 190T Polyester Taffeta, further enhancing air circulation, effectively reducing condensation buildup, and keeping you comfortable all night.

We increased the spacing between the inner tent and outer fly, effectively reducing the friction noise between the fabrics during windy conditions, creating a quieter sleep environment. A side window has also been added to the inner tent, allowing campers inside the bedroom to easily open or close the outer fly curtains.
