TRADITION OF RESISTANCE
A Community Documentary Theatre Piece about Civic Protests in Belgrade
The remarkable theatre production "Tradition of Resistance," performed at Reflektor, traces the history of civic protests in Belgrade over the course of nearly a century.
The performance took the form of a collective reading, in which participants and audience members read their own roles, creating a unique atmosphere of solidarity and authenticity.
Directed by Minja Bogavac, the production is considered innovative because it is based on excerpts from in-depth interviews conducted by journalists with protest participants. Its greatest strength lies in the fact that the participants themselves read excerpts from their own interviews, bringing personal experience, emotion, and authenticity to every spoken word.
The play takes the audience from the first civic protests of the 1930s, in which Mitra Mitrović was one of the prominent participants, through the student and civic protests of 1968, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996/97, 2000, 2018, 2020, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026—with the hope that these latest protests will be the last we will ever have to remember.
It was a great honor and a genuine pleasure to take part in this original and important theatre project and to contribute to a performance that authentically preserves the memory of a long tradition of civic resistance.
