🎮What did Viminacium look like in the past, and how can we explore it today?
During the Green Heritage camp, participants had the chance to discover Viminacium in a completely different way — through a Minecraft map inspired by this important archaeological site.
Together with Archaeological Institute and Academy Polytechnic, history moved into a digital space, combining archaeology, technology and a much more interactive way of learning.
Because history is not something we only read about — it is something we can step into i virual world.

🎮The Green Heritage journey in Viminacium continues with our third workshop!
Once again, camp participants had the opportunity to explore the ancient site of Viminacium through a specially developed Minecraft environment, discovering cultural heritage through play, technology and interactive learning. 🧱

Organized by the Institute of Archeology and Academy of Applied Studies Polytechnic, the workshop created another space where history could be experienced in a way that feels engaging and familiar to younger generations.

The Minecraft maps developed through Green Heritage project, are helping expand new digital approaches to presenting and exploring historical and archaeological sites.

With every workshop, we continue building new connections between the past and the digital world.

🧱 One more journey through Viminacium — in Minecraft!
The story continued on 20 July, when the second Green Heritage workshop at Viminacium science camp gave young participants another opportunity to explore the archaeological site through its Minecraft map. 🎮🏛️

Developed within the Green Heritage project, the Minecraft map transforms Viminacium into an interactive digital environment, allowing young people to discover archaeological heritage through a medium that is part of their everyday digital world.

During the workshop, participants explored the virtual reconstruction of Viminacium, learning how technology and gaming can open new ways of approaching archaeology, cultural heritage and environmental sustainability.

Organized by Institute of Archeology and Academy of Applied Studies Polytechnic, the workshop showed how digital experiences can encourage curiosity, participation and a deeper connection with the past.

The goal is simple: to make heritage more accessible, engaging and meaningful to younger generations and to learn about sustainability models from past civilization — by bringing heritage into the worlds where they already feel at home. 🌍

🏛️ Viminacium meets Minecraft! 🎮
What if young people could explore heritage and sustainability through a world they already know and love?

As part of the Green Heritage project, a Minecraft map of Viminacium was developed, bringing the archaeological site into a digital environment and creating a new way of learning and experiencing cultural heritage.

On 13 July, young participants at Viminacium science camp had the opportunity to use the map for the first time during a dedicated workshop. Through Minecraft, they explored the site, connected digital spaces with real archaeological heritage and discovered that learning about the past can also be interactive, creative and fun.

The workshop was organized by Institute of Archaeology and Academy of Applied Studies Polytechnic, who helped participants navigate the Minecraft environment and discover Viminacium from a new perspective.

🎨 Layers of Heritage: Sgraffito, Creativity and Environmental Awareness

As part of the GreenHeritage project, students took part in an experiential workshop exploring sgraffito as a traditional decorative technique connected to cultural heritage, creativity, and sustainability.

Developed by Wazo Coop, the activity introduced participants to the process of layering and scratching surfaces to create motifs, textures, and visual patterns inspired by heritage and natural forms. 🌿

Through hands-on work, students created their own sgraffito-inspired pieces, reflecting on craftsmanship, local identity, inherited knowledge, and the value of manual skills.

The workshop highlighted how traditional techniques can become meaningful tools for connecting culture, creativity, and environmental awareness in contemporary learning. ✨

✒️ Green Script Lab: Writing the Past with Sustainable Tools

As part of the GreenHeritage project, students took part in an experiential workshop exploring literacy in the Roman world through cultural heritage, traditional craftsmanship, and sustainable practices.

Developed by the University of Primorska, the activity introduced participants to Roman writing materials and tools, including papyrus, parchment, wax tablets, ink, and reed pens. 🏛️

Through hands-on work, students examined replicas, created their own writing tools from natural reeds, and produced small inscribed objects inspired by Roman writing traditions.

The workshop highlighted how ancient communication, natural materials, and handmade tools can support creative learning while encouraging environmental awareness and responsible resource use. ✨

🍇 Green Roman Feast – A Living Heritage Dining Experience

As part of the GreenHeritage project, students took part in an experiential workshop exploring Roman food culture, daily life, and sustainable dining practices.

Developed by the University of Primorska in collaboration with experts in archaeology and cultural heritage, the activity introduced participants to Roman dietary habits, ingredients, tableware, and dining customs at Simon’s Bay Archaeological Park. 🏛️

Through hands-on activities, students explored Roman tableware, picked herbs and fruits, and prepared a simple dish and drink inspired by ancient recipes.

By sharing food in a reconstructed Roman dining setting, the workshop connected heritage, gastronomy, and sustainability, highlighting the importance of local resources, seasonal ingredients, and responsible consumption. ✨

As part of the GreenHeritage project, students took part in a practical workshop exploring calligraphy as both an artistic discipline and a historical form of written communication.

Conducted in cooperation with the Institute of Archaeology and Viminacium Archaeological Park, the activity connected cultural heritage education with sustainable practices through writing on reused paper. 🌿
