🌍🌱 World Environment Day Celebrated with the New Green Guardians of Djerdap
National Park Djerdap Ltd., the managing authority of the Djerdap UNESCO Global Geopark, marked World Environment Day together with children from the Preschool Institution "Marija Munćan" in Donji Milanovac and students from "Vuk Karadžić" Primary School, including its branch schools in Boljetin, Klokočevac, Topolnica, and Mosna, through a joint tree-planting activity.
One of the important missions of the Djerdap UNESCO Global Geopark is to foster environmental awareness and responsibility through education and direct contact with nature, especially among younger generations. Through activities like this, children learn that preserving our natural heritage is a shared responsibility and that every small action can contribute to building a more sustainable future.
🌳 This year's World Environment Day celebration provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of nature conservation in the face of increasingly frequent climate change and growing environmental pressures, while conveying the message that each individual can contribute to positive change through their actions.
Duško Grujić, a protected area ranger at Djerdap National Park, demonstrated the proper process of planting tree seedlings and introduced the children to methods of their care and maintenance. Biologist Sara Stanković presented the species that were planted and shared interesting facts about their importance for preserving biodiversity and maintaining healthy ecosystems. 💚
For the implementation of this activity, the Institute of Forestry donated seven seedlings of different tree species: narrow-leaved ash, European ash, maple, sessile oak, and northern red oak. Three seedlings were planted in the schoolyard of "Vuk Karadžić" Primary School in Donji Milanovac, two in the yard of the "Marija Munćan" Preschool Institution in Donji Milanovac, while the remaining two seedlings are intended for activities with children and students in Majdanpek.
Through activities such as these, the Djerdap UNESCO Global Geopark reaffirms its commitment to promoting sustainable development, protecting natural values, and raising awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. By involving the youngest members of the community in practical activities such as tree planting, the Geopark encourages the development of a lasting connection between people and nature, laying the foundations for responsible stewardship of our natural heritage in the future.
🌍🌳 Each planted tree represents an investment in the future and reminds us that protecting nature begins with small yet meaningful steps we take today.
