It was a honor to attend the July 4th Independence Day celebration at the U.S. Embassy in Praia, Cabo Verde.
On this special occasion, 250th anniversary, I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to the people of the United States as they celebrate the values of freedom, democracy, and opportunity that have shaped their nation.
The event also highlighted the enduring partnership between Cabo Verde and the United States: a relationship built on mutual respect, cooperation, and a shared commitment to creating opportunities through education, science, and innovation.
At Diáspora Mundi, we are proud to contribute to this partnership mainly through collaborations established with Stanford University and MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives (MISTI). By welcoming students to Cabo Verde and engaging them in research and development initiatives alongside local institutions and communities, we promote meaningful knowledge exchange, strengthen human capital, and support evidence-based solutions to the country's development challenges.
The celebration also offered an excellent opportunity to meet members of Cabo Verde's newly appointed Government. I wish them every success in their mandate and look forward to seeing the country continue to strengthen its international partnerships in support of sustainable development.
My sincere thanks to the Chargé d'Affaires, Mark Weinberg, for the kind invitation and warm hospitality. I would also like to congratulate the 39th Army Band of the New Hampshire National Guard for an outstanding performance that made this celebration truly memorable.
May the friendship between Cabo Verde and the United States continue to flourish, inspiring new collaborations that create lasting impact for both nations.

At Diáspora Mundi, we would like to acknowledge and celebrate the extraordinary journey of Cabo Verde at the FIFA World Cup.
Against all odds, a small island nation made the world take notice!
First, our Tubarões Azuis achieved what many believed impossible by qualifying for the World Cup. Then, they advanced to the Round of 32. And today, facing the world champion Argentina, they demonstrated remarkable courage, resilience, and quality by scoring 2 goals, denying many opportunities, and taking the match into extra time.
For many, this may simply have been a sporting result, but for Cabo Verde, it was history!
Our Tubarões Azuis have shown that greatness is determined by preparation, unity, discipline, complementary strengths, and the belief that no dream is too ambitious!
We warmly congratulate every player, the coaching staff, and everyone who contributed to this outstanding achievement. Together, you represented Cabo Verde with excellence, dignity, and honor on the world's biggest football stage.
You have written a chapter that generations will remember, not only because of the football you played, but because you placed the name of Cabo Verde on the global map, inspiring millions within our islands and across our diaspora.
At Diáspora Mundi, we hope this achievement becomes much more than a sporting milestone. May it remind us that the same and collective spirit can also transform science, education, healthcare, innovation, entrepreneurship, culture, and every sector that contributes to our country's sustainable development. This World Cup has shown us what becomes possible when Cape-verdeans, regardless of where they live, unite around a common goal.

Over three years ago, we started a journey with a conviction: knowledge only changes lives when it is shared, translated into action and reaches those who need it most.
Today, I am incredibly proud to announce the publication of this scientific paper from Diáspora Mundi, symbolizing the transformation of an idea into a movement dedicated to connecting science, policy and communities across Africa.

Since its foundation, Diáspora Mundi consolidated its role as an international platform committed to strengthening research capacity, promoting equitable scientific collaboration and ensuring that evidence generated, also about Africa, serves Africa.
This publication originated from a knowledge-exchange collaboration established with MIT-Africa and MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives (MISTI), bringing together international expertise and African perspectives to address challenges relevant to the continent.
It is a wake-up call to remind that climate change in Africa cannot be addressed by simply importing policies developed elsewhere. Effective climate governance must recognize continent's diversity, structural realities, and health challenges.
Our review calls for governments, institutions, and international partners to move beyond ambition and invest in:
• strengthening climate-resilient health systems and primary healthcare;
• investing in integrated climate–health surveillance and early warning systems;
• reforming climate finance, so that adaptation resources become accessible, equitable and grant-based rather than debt-generating;
• promoting health literacy and community participation as essential components of adaptation;
• recognizing regional differences across Africa and designing locally appropriate policies instead of transferring one-size-fits-all solutions;
• embedding climate justice and African ethical principles into environmental governance;
• protecting food systems through a One Health approach.
This paper argues that Africa does not need more policies. It needs policies that can actually be implemented.

History has just learned to pronounce the name of CABO VERDE a little louder 🇨🇻

There are victories measured by scoreboards, and there are victories measured by what they awaken in our hearts.
Cabo Verde celebrates both.
Qualifying for the FIFA World Cup was already a historic achievement for a nation of about half a million people. Yet reaching the next stage of the competition is the proof that: dreams have no borders; greatness is never measured by the size of a nation; and when a country believes in itself, it can rise far beyond what others thought possible!
Every moment on that field sent a powerful message: to every Cape-verdean child, that no dream is too ambitious; to every young person, that opportunity is never defined by the size of their country; and to every member of the Cape-verdean diaspora, that the love they have carried for Cabo Verde across oceans continues to shape the future of their nation.
The strength of Cabo Verde has always lived in the extraordinary bridge between its islands and its diaspora, which keeps showing that distance does not weaken belonging. It strengthens responsibility, and when talent and commitment flows in both directions, as we believe at Diáspora Mundi, remarkable things happen, like Cabo Verde’s qualification for the World Cup.
Our Tubarões Azuis reminded that challenges become opportunities and dreams become realities, when a nation move forward as one!
If the greatest asset any country has, its people, succeeded in placing Cabo Verde among the world’s greatest football nations, then the same collective spirit can transform every other sector shaping country development.

Diáspora Mundi was proud to participate in AI Everything Kenya X GITEX Kenya, an inspiring event that brought together brilliant minds, innovative ideas, and a shared commitment to advancing technology, science, and meaningful interaction.
Witnessing African and international professionals exchanging knowledge, building bridges, and actively seeking opportunities to join forces for the sustainable development of our continent truly reflects Diáspora Mundi's vision for Africa's future. We strongly believe that despite Africa must continue to seek knowledge, innovation, and expertise wherever they exist, the connections established between Africans and African talent across borders is an extraordinary and powerful asset. The African diaspora has the potential to foster meaningful collaborations, capable of accelerating impactful and transformative progress in their countries of origin, by linking global experience, networks, and competencies with local realities and priorities. Strengthening these interactions is precisely the mission of Diáspora Mundi: we bridge worlds, encourage collaboration, and contribute to the co-creation of solutions that are innovative, relevant, and adaptable to the real needs of our communities and countries.

Giving visibility to investigations developed by African and diaspora scientists is essential not only to inspire new generations, but also to demonstrate that our science can directly support better public health strategies, more informed policies, and the sustainable development of our beloved African continent.
Our work seeks to generate data that truly reflects African populations and realities, helping to bridge important gaps while reinforcing the importance of including African voices, expertise, and communities in the scientific process.
We strongly believe that empowering science across the continent is one of the most powerful ways to promote equity, strengthen institutions, and create long-lasting impact for future generations.
