It feels like just yesterday we were standing in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, witnessing a moment that marked a turning point in our collective journey!
On those days, vision met action!
With the unwavering support of global partners, among which Diáspora Mundi, a powerful movement of transformation began, ADWIN, the African and African-descendant Women Impact Network, led by Élisabeth Moreno and co-founders Prescillia Avenel and George-Axelle Broussillon Matschinga.
An extraordinary gathering of African and African-descendant Women came together, from all continents, to celebrate their success stories, establish meaningful connections, and courageously relate the systemic challenges they continue to face.
Too often, structural barriers limit the access of Africans and African-descendants to quality education and opportunities for skill development. Too many walk their paths without the guidance of qualified mentors, who can equip them with tools to navigate a global reality, where race, gender, and geography shape their professional opportunities. Access to adequate healthcare and well-being support remains unequal. Financial systems continue to exclude rather than empower. Also, many Africans and African-descendants still grow up disconnected from the rich wisdom and cultural heritage of their civilizations.
In Abidjan, under the high patronage of Mrs. Dominique Ouattara (First Lady of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire), Mrs. Sassou Nguesso (First Lady of the Republic of Congo), and Mrs. Débora Katisa Carvalho (First Lady of the Republic of Cabo Verde), and in the esteemed presence of Her Majesty Queen Temitope Morenike Enitan-Ogunwusi, a historic milestone was accomplished. This landmark gathering was achieved by the close collaboration established between ADWIN and key national leaders: Minister Euphrasie Kouassi Yao, Minister Nasseneba Touré, and the Mayor of Cocody, Jean-Marc Yacé. The event was enriched by the participation of numerous strategic allies, such as Compendium des Compétences Féminines de Côte d'Ivoire (COCOFCI), La Puissance du Lien, AI Crafters, and Diáspora Mundi, among many other visionary organizations, each contributing to the shared mission of empowering African and African-descendant women, globally.
On those days, we reaffirmed our commitment to pursue common goals: uniting our strengths to co-create impactful solutions, serving as a bridge that connects diverse communities across the globe, and catalyzing a worldwide movement advocating inclusive and systemic transformation.
Thank you to the entire ADWIN team for your commitment to reshape the global landscape!
