🇮🇹🥵 Summer in Italy: How Locals Beat the Heat
Italian summers can be intense, so locals adapt their entire lifestyle.
⛰️ The Dolomites — cooler mountain air and hiking escapes
🏞️ Lake Como & Lake Garda — breezes, boats, and slow lakeside afternoons
🏘️ Hill towns (Orvieto, Siena, Assisi) — higher altitude means cooler evenings
🕒 Daily rhythm shift — early mornings, indoor rest from ~1–4pm, evenings back outside after sunset
🏛️ Museums and churches — natural air-conditioned escapes during peak heat
🍦 Gelato — at least once (often twice) a day is part of surviving summer
💡 Rule of thumb:
If a piazza is empty at 2pm in August, it’s not abandoned, it’s strategy.
