The HORECA sector in Europe (Hotels, Restaurants, Cafés) depends heavily on immigrant workers — yet many still face significant barriers just to enter the industry.

Despite ongoing labour shortages, the challenges are well known:
🔹 Language requirements for customer-facing roles
🔹 Informal hiring practices that exclude those without networks
🔹 Legal and administrative hurdles
🔹 Under-recognition of international experience
🔹 Precarious and unstable working conditions
🔹 Limited awareness of labour rights
🔹 Bias and “cultural fit” barriers

💡 This is where the IMMiNTE project comes in.
IMMiNTE is designed to directly address these gaps by supporting both migrants and employers in the HORECA sector.

Here’s how the project contributes to solutions:
✅ Bridging language and communication gaps
By promoting targeted training and tools that improve workplace communication and customer interaction.
✅ Improving access to reliable information
Helping migrants better understand labour rights, contracts, and legal requirements — reducing vulnerability.
✅ Supporting skills recognition and development
Highlighting transferable skills and facilitating better alignment between migrant profiles and employer needs.
✅ Encouraging fair and inclusive recruitment practices
Working with employers to move beyond informal hiring and reduce bias in selection processes.
✅ Strengthening integration pathways
Providing resources that help migrants not just find jobs — but sustain and grow within them.

🌍 The goal is simple:
Turn a system full of barriers into one full of opportunities — for workers, businesses, and the wider economy.

Projects like IMMiNTE show that improving inclusion in HORECA is not just about filling vacancies — it’s about building a more resilient and fair labour market.

📢 New insights on the HORECA sector in Europe!

The European Labour Authority has released in 2024 a report highlighting the key challenges and opportunities in the hospitality sector (Hotels, Restaurants, Cafés). With over 10 million workers across the EU, HORECA plays a vital role in our economies — especially in tourism-driven regions.

🔎 The report shows:
• A high share of mobile, young, and female workers
• Increasing labour shortages in key roles like chefs and waiters
• Challenges in ensuring fair working conditions and enforcing labour rights
• A strong need to improve access to information and awareness for workers

💡 These findings strongly connect with the mission of the IMMiNTE project !

IMMiNTE is working to support the integration of migrants into the tourism and hospitality sector through tailored training, language support, and innovative learning tools. By addressing skills gaps and empowering workers, the project contributes directly to a more inclusive, skilled, and resilient HORECA workforce.
