Regional instability (Yemen) has introduced security threats including the use of Anti- Ship Missiles (ASM), sea mines and Water-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (WBIED).
Threats may come from a number of different sources including, but not limited to, drones (unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)), limpet mines, explosive boats, pirates and armed robbers.
Currently, there are multiple reports from masters, regarding small craft acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the Gulf of Aden. Masters are encouraged to report any irregular activity to UKMTO.
Several vessels affiliated to Israel have been engaged to different incidents (boardings, attacks, etc.) by Yemen Houthis, while transiting GoA and South Red Sea, during November-December 2023.
Transit close to Somali or Yemen coast is assessed as HIGH RISK.
