OPAP was founded in 1958 in Greece as a state-owned company. On 21 September 1999 it was transformed into a joint stock company.

On 25 April 2001 the company's shares were listed on the Athens Stock Exchange. As of 11 June 2008, the Greek state owned 34.4% of the company. Games
