Για να είναι δυνατή η σεισμική αξιολόγηση υφιστάμενων κτιρίων οπλισμένου σκυροδέματος απαιτείται η χρήση εξειδικευμένων εργαλείων. Οι ανιχνευτές χάλυβα οπλισμού αποτελούν ένα τέτοιο εργαλείο, καθώς επιτρέπουν τον εντοπισμό των ράβδων οπλισμού και την αποφυγή ζημιών κατά τις κατασκευαστικές εργασίες, συμβάλλοντας στην προστασία της σεισμικής αντοχής των κτιρίων.
