📢 News from Day 3 at the Circle the Med Forum! 🌊💧

What an incredible finale in Athens, at the Circle the Med Event.

Thanks to amazing teamwork, the Share.MedWATER team has officially won the Marketplace Village Award for the most clear presentation! 🏆

Thematic Working Groups: We spent the morning collaborating in the Resource Valorisation working groups to help shape future policy White Papers.

Marketplace Village: Our team joined forces in the interactive challenge clusters, pitching our circular innovation solutions for territorial water and energy needs.

The Victory: Our collective hard work paid off with the top award for presentation clarity!
A huge thank you to the Interreg Euro-MED Innovative Sustainable Economy (ISE) Mission and everyone who supported our team! 🤝✨

💧 From Energy to Water Communities: Can we replicate the model? 🌍

Today at the Circle the Med Forum in Athens, SHARE.MedWATER took the stage at the MED Innovation Summit! During the Green Living Areas Institutional Policy Dialogue, we explored how to adapt successful energy community models for the water sector.
Key highlights:

🔹 Reality Check: Elisa Ulazzi (CUEIM.) broke down the regulatory and operational barriers to water communities in the Mediterranean.
🔹 Panel Debate: Ms. Tiziana Campisi (Greentech) joined experts from OECOOP and the WATERVILL project to debate the challenges of managing water vs. energy organizations.

🔹 Our Goal: Finding the right governance is critical as we work to launch pilots for reusing unconventional water resources.

Moving toward community-led impact is how we secure a sustainable Mediterranean! 🌊👏

đź’§ Your voice matters in shaping the future of water reuse.

We are pleased to launch our survey across the 7 pilot areas of the project aiming to better understand public perception and acceptance of treated water reuse.

🌍 As water scarcity becomes an increasing challenge, innovative solutions such as water
reuse are essential. However, their success strongly depends on social acceptance and
stakeholder awareness.

📝 By taking part in this short survey (10–15 minutes, completely anonymous), you will
directly contribute to:
â—Ź defining the baseline of social acceptance in different territories
â—Ź identifying concerns, expectations, and opportunities
â—Ź supporting the development of more inclusive and effective water reuse solutions

👉 Take the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/medwater

Your participation will help us ensure that future water management strategies are not onlysustainable, but also socially accepted and aligned with local needs.

Thank you for your valuable contribution!

You’re invited to join the SHARE-MedWATER survey, exploring perceptions and acceptance of non-conventional water reuse (treated wastewater, greywater, rainwater). Your input will help identify awareness, needs, and barriers across stakeholders.

🌿🤝 URI & Municipality of Gjirokastër Kick Off SHARE.MedWATER Collaboration!

The Urban Research Institute (URI) and the Municipality of Gjirokastër have officially launched their cooperation under the SHARE.MedWATER project! The introductory meeting marked an important step toward improving sustainable water management and preserving the city’s traditional water systems, including the historic “stera” structures.

URI representatives met with Mayor Flamur Golemi and Deputy Mayor Amarilda Lelaj, who expressed strong municipal support. Together, they discussed potential pilot sites, starting with five historic houses shortlisted by URI, with more to be assessed jointly.
A field visit to restored water systems provided valuable insights for upcoming interventions.

🔜 Next steps:

Signing a cooperation MoU
Technical reassessments of pilot houses
Expanding the list of candidate sites
Preparing studies and documentation

The partnership sets a solid foundation for enhancing water resilience while safeguarding Gjirokastër’s cultural heritage.

🌍 We are excited to start showcasing the pilot projects of SHARE.MED Water! Lets meet our pilot in France, in the village of Lozzi in Corsica.

Our first highlight comes from France, where an isolated mountain village at 1,050 m faces significant environmental and infrastructure challenges: limited sewer coverage, no wastewater treatment, strong seasonality, and proximity to the Natura 2000 site “Niolu & Monte Cinto”.

đź’§ Our solution
A containerized, modular wastewater treatment plant, ideal for remote rural communities. This approach:
• Produces Class A treated water
• Enables irrigation of ~1 hectare of crops
• Covers 100% of current agricultural needs (~3,000 m³/year)
• Requires minimal civil engineering and allows easy future expansion

🌱 Expected impact:
• Complete elimination of untreated wastewater discharges
• Significant reduction in organic and bacteriological pollution
• Improved protection of the sensitive Natura 2000 ecosystem
• Reduced pressure on drinking water resources during peak summer months
• Secured irrigation supply for local food production
• Creation of a replicable rural model for other Mediterranean regions

This is the first in a series of pilot initiatives we will be presenting over the coming weeks.
Together, we are advancing sustainable, resilient solutions for rural communities across the Mediterranean. 💧🌿
