Here are the major elements to keep in mind while writing the discussion section;

1. The Relevance of the Research: The purpose of every research is to implement the results for the positive development of the relevant subject. The discussion should have this major factors listed before beginning to describe about how the research was conceived and the sequence of developments that took place.

2. Acknowledgements of the Limitations: If the research is on a subject that might have legal limitations or restrictions that might have caused certain imperfections, it should be acknowledged by the researcher before the work is criticized by others later.

3. Introduction of the Discoveries: Begin by stating all the major findings in the course of the research. The first paragraph should have the findings mentioned, which is expected to be synoptic, naming and briefly describing the analysis of results.

4. Discussing the Findings: Coming to the major part of the findings, the section should interpret the key observations, the analysis of charts and the analysis of tables. The researcher has to;

• Begin with explaining the objective of the research, followed by what inspired you as a researcher to study the subject.

• Explain the meaning of the findings, as every reader might not understand the analysis of graphs and charts as easily as people who are in the same field as you.

• The reader should be able to understand the key observations without being forced to go through the whole paper.

5. Comparison and Relating: No one is ever the only person researching on a particular subject. A researcher always has companions and competitors. The discussion section should have a detailed comparison to researches. It should present the facts that relates the research to studies done on the same subject.

6. Alternative Explanations: Almost every time, it has been noticed that analysis of charts and graphs show the results that tend to have more than one explanation. The researcher must consider every possible explanation and potential enhancement of the study from alternative viewpoints.

In general, the Results section includes the following elements:

- A very short introductory context that repeats the research question and helps to understand your results.

- Report on data collection, recruitment, and/or participants. For example, in the case of clinical research, it is common to include a first table summarizing the demographic, clinical, and other relevant characteristics of the study participants.
A systematic description of the main findings in a logical order (generally following the order of the Methods section), highlighting the most relevant results.

- Other important secondary findings, such as secondary outcomes or subgroup analyses (remember that you do not need to mention any single result).

- Visual elements, such as, figures, charts, maps, tables, etc. that summarize and illustrate the findings. These elements should be cited in the text and numbered in order. Figures and tables should be able to stand on its own without the text, which means that the legend should include enough information to understand the non-textual element.

You will need to reiterate your research topic or question and give an overview of how you plan to investigate this. If there were any ethical or philosophical considerations to be made, give details.

1. Qualitative Research Methods:

Personal observations – Where and when did you conduct the observations? Who did you observe? Were they part of a particular community or group? How long did each observation take? How did you record your findings – did you collect audio recordings, video footage or written observations?

Focus groups – Where and when did the focus group take place? Who was involved? How were they selected? How many people took part? Were the questions asked structured, unstructured or semi-structured? Remember to include a copy of the questions that were used as an appendix.

Interviews – Where and when did the interviews take place? Who took part? How did you select the participants? What type of questions did you ask? How did you record your findings? Remember to include a copy of the questions that were used as an appendix.

2. Quantitative Research Methods:

Existing information or data – What were the sources of the material used? How did you select material? Did you only use data published within a particular time frame?

Experiments – What tools or equipment did you use? What techniques were required? Note that when conducting experiments, it is particularly important to provide enough information to allow another researcher to conduct the experiment and obtain the same results.

Surveys – Were respondents asked to answer multiple-choice questions or complete free-text fields? How many questions were used? How long were people given to answer all of the questions? What were the demographics of the participants? Remember to include a copy of the survey in the appendices.
