📢Call for Applications | Talent Discovery Visit @ SAS 2026

📅1–4 December 2026 | Bratislava, Slovakia

The Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) invites early-career researchers to meet research teams, visit institutes and explore opportunities for scientific cooperation, postdoctoral research and funding, including MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships.

🤓Who can apply?
PhD candidates from their third year onward or researchers who completed their PhD within the last five years.

Research topics:
🍃Water, Landscape and Climate Security
💉Population Health
🖥️Digital and Technological Transformation of Society
🏛️Trust, Societal Resilience and Protection of Cultural Heritage
🔋Materials, Energy and Industrial Transformation
Interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged.

💵What is covered?
Three nights’ accommodation with breakfast, programme lunches, programme-related local transport and activities, plus reimbursement of eligible travel costs up to €300 per participant.

Congratulations to this year's Nobel Prize laureates! 🏅

The EU is proud to have supported Prof. Peter Hegemann, Prof. Georg Nagel and Prof. Francis Halzen and their research through Horizon Europe programmes, including the European Research Council (ERC), Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions MSCA) and the European Innovation Council (EIC) predecessor.

Through the years, the EU has supported several initiatives, with a focus on advancing research and innovation through continuous investment in research, scientific talent and international cooperation.

🇨🇿 Czech Statehood Day – 28 September

On Monday, 28 September, Czechia celebrates Czech Statehood Day (Den české státnosti), a national public holiday connected with St. Wenceslas (Svatý Václav), the patron saint of the Czech lands.

If you're living in Czechia, here are a few things to keep in mind:

🛍️ Planning to shop? Most large shops and supermarkets over 200 m² must close on 28 September. Smaller shops, pharmacies and petrol stations are among the exceptions, so it is worth checking opening hours in advance.

🏛️ Looking for something to do? The holiday is also a great opportunity to explore Czech history and culture. In Prague, Strakova akademie, the seat of the Czech Government, will open its doors to the public for free on 28 September, with guided tours from 10:00 to 17:00.

🍂 And with warm autumn weather expected, it could also be a good day for a walk, a trip outside Prague or simply enjoying the beginning of autumn.

"Behind every successful researcher is a unique story."

Today, at our first-ever Brunch for Expat Women in Czech Science, we had the privilege of hearing one of those stories.

Dr. Phuong Ngoc Pham (BIOCEV) shared her journey of relocating to the Czech Republic, building a scientific career, raising a family, and finding her place in a new country. Her honest reflections highlighted not only the professional opportunities that international mobility can bring, but also the personal growth, resilience, and determination behind every career path.

We are grateful to have created a space where international women researchers could connect, exchange experiences, and support one another over brunch and conversation.

Thank you, Phuong, for your openness and inspiration, and thank you all who joined us for this special first edition. We hope this is only the beginning of many more conversations, connections, and shared stories.

• Three years of funding provided by The Kellner Family Foundation (total support CZK 7.6 million), followed by two additional years funded by the hosting faculty (minimally CZK 1M per year).

We’d love to invite you to a special brunch for female researchers who live and work in science in the Czech Republic.
Come and hear the inspiring story of Phuong Ngoc Pham, researcher at BIOCEV, and her journey through Czech science. We’ll also have plenty of time to share our own experiences — what we enjoy about working and living in the Czech Republic, as well as the things that challenge or concern us.

Our aim is to create a relaxed, open, and safe space where we can talk honestly, listen to one another, and hopefully discover that some of the things we’re navigating are more widely shared than we might think.
