APEL DO POLAKÓW NA CAŁYM ŚWIECIE
My, Polacy, gdziekolwiek żyjemy, mamy moralny obowiązek mówić prawdę o Wołyniu.
Ofiary palono żywcem, mordowano siekierami, widłami i nożami. Całe polskie wsie znikały z mapy. Dziesiątki tysięcy zamordowanych do dziś nie mają godnych grobów.
Ta prawda nie jest opinią ani emocją. Została udokumentowana w relacjach świadków, archiwach i literaturze historycznej.
Osadczego to m.in.:
Nie zabijaj. Nacjonalizm i ludobójstwo na Kresach wobec Kościoła, etyki chrześcijańskiej i zasad humanizmu, współautorstwa Włodzimierza Osadczego i Adama Kulczyckiego – omawiająca aspekt ludobójstwa na Kresach oraz jego etyczne i społeczne konsekwencje;
referat „Odrodzenie polskości na Wołyniu” wygłoszony przez prof. Osadczego na XXI sesji Stałej Konferencji MABPZ w Rzymie, dotykający historycznych i kulturowych aspektów obecności Polaków na Wołyniu;
Wołamy o prawdę, pamięć i godność ofiar.
Dlatego apelujemy do Polaków na emigracji:
1. mówcie o Wołyniu w mediach, szkołach, środowiskach akademickich i debatach publicznych,
I będziemy pamiętać.
AN APPEAL TO POLES AROUND THE WORLD
Wherever we live, we Poles have a moral duty to speak the truth about Volhynia.
About the genocide committed between 1943 and 1945 against the Polish civilian population by Ukrainian nationalist formations of the UPA.
These were brutal, systematic mass murders of women, children, and the elderly—people killed solely because they were Polish. Victims were burned alive, hacked to death with axes, pitchforks, and knives. Entire Polish villages vanished from the map. Tens of thousands of murdered civilians still have no dignified graves.
This truth is not a matter of opinion or emotion. It has been documented in eyewitness testimonies, archival records, and historical literature. The crimes are described, among others, in the book Sąsiedzi by Jacek Międlar, based on survivor accounts and documented evidence of Polish families’ fate in the Eastern Borderlands.
Fundamental importance is also held by academic research conducted by historians such as Lucyna Kulińska, PhD, and Włodzimierz Osadczy, professor and scholar of Polish-Ukrainian twentieth-century history. Their works, grounded in archival sources and documented testimonies, provide a scholarly foundation for understanding the scale and nature of the OUN-UPA crimes, clearly identifying them as ethnic cleansing with the hallmarks of genocide.
The world largely does not know this history. Outside Poland, Volhynia is often ignored, relativized, or misrepresented. Without knowledge of these facts, the depth of Polish trauma, pain, and collective memory cannot be understood.
To this day, there has been no unequivocal apology, no full acknowledgment of guilt, and no comprehensive condemnation of the perpetrators.
Without truth, there can be no reconciliation. Without memory, there can be no justice.
We do not call for hatred or revenge.
We call for truth, remembrance, and dignity for the victims.
We therefore appeal to Poles living abroad to:
1. speak about Volhynia in the media, schools, academic environments, and public debates;
2. respond to falsehoods and the relativization of crimes;
3. demand that things be called by their proper name—this was genocide.
Silence kills memory.
Truth—however painful—is the foundation of honest history.
We remember. And we will remember.
Ohne Erinnerung keine Gerechtigkeit.
