We’re thrilled to announce that our talented Solidartsy woman Rachael Jablo Rachael Jablo (she/her)] received a Neustart Kultur Grant for Innovative Arts for 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵! 💪⭐️

The Hysteria Project bears witness to stories of people who experience menstruation dysfunction. Rachael represents uteruses, its unique pain and illness with cameraless photographs of lace on a metal leaf background creating individual collage ‘portraits’ of the respondents’ reproductive systems. 🩸 Her project is an ode and a support to Annelie, Corinne, Jacqueline and all the people facing heavy pain, bleeding and misdiagnosis. ✊

🙅‍♀️ TW MENTAL HEALTH, R**E & DOMESTIC VIOLENCE 🙅‍♀️ "10 World Famous Artists and Their Muses" "10 Astonishing Muses Who Deserve A Place In Art History" "Does The Artist's Muse Have a Place in the Modern World?" "The role of the artist's muse" Here are some headlines of articles that say a lot about the place of the "muse" in the art world. Quite gendered, like the sentence the word "muse" is more than problematic.

🍋 A constant scheme has been conveyed for centuries in art history: the artist, usually a male, is somehow magically inspired by his muse, usually an idealized version of a female. No place for successful artists in such a painting.

🍋 We already talked back in March about Camille Claudel and Auguste Rodin: Claudel, a talented sculptor, was reduced to being the painter's muse and soon depicted as a raving lunatic. Her personal, mental struggles and that toxic relationship led to her mental decline. She ultimately ended up in an asylum until her death.

🍋 This week we discovered the last episode of a French podcast, about Pablo Picasso and we just could not stay silent. Thank you for what you do! 💛💪 Our main feelings were terror and anger. Picasso used to paint his wives after ra**ng them like he did for Marie-Thérèse Walter or after beating them like Dora Maar.

🍋 His 53 paintings named "Weeping woman" from 1937 were according to the critics, produced in response to the bombing of Guernica and were related to totalitarism. They were not only political. They were also a representation of his own violence towards Maar. The woman portrayed, was crying not only because of the atrocities of those times but because he just beat her up. He hit like he painted.

🍋 She was the one telling him to paint about Guernica. She was a successful photographer before. He told her to stop photography. She is still remembered as one of Picasso's lovers before being an artist. Her role as a muse was to suffer and deny her own identity as a woman and an artist. To this day, he has been the one abusing women and having (abuse of) power. Let's report that! ✊
