Habt ihr schon mal vom Equal Care Day gehört?
Falls nicht, geben wir euch einen kleinen Überblick.
Was heißt Care-Arbeit?
Ins Deutsche übersetzt bedeutet es so viel wie „Fürsorgearbeit”. Der Begriff ist eine Kurzfassung für alle Berufe, Ehrenämter oder private Aktivitäten, die die Pflege und Fürsorge für andere Menschen in den Mittelpunkt stellen. Damit sind also Tätigkeiten gemeint, die die Bildung und Erziehung von Kindern betreffen, aber auch die Pflege von kranken und alten Menschen oder Menschen mit Behinderungen. Das sind Dinge, die jeden Tag passieren und häufig werden sie im alltäglichen Leben kaum wahrgenommen, obwohl sie so wichtig sind!
Trotzdem oder gerade deswegen sieht man, dass viele Menschen sie aus tiefster Überzeugung und mit Herzen ausüben.
Eigentlich fällt der Equal Care Day auf den 29. Februar. Das heißt, er würde nur alle vier Jahre stattfinden, immer dann, wenn Schaltjahr ist. 2022 ist kein Schaltjahr, darum wird er heute, am 1. März gefeiert. Klingt komisch, ist aber ziemlich durchdacht, denn: In der Fürsorgearbeit herrscht eine ungerechte Arbeitsteilung. Noch immer ist es so, dass 80 % dieser Tätigkeiten von Frauen* getragen werden, Männer* übernehmen nur 20 %. Damit ist das Verhältnis 1 zu 4 genauso groß wie das der am 29. Februar stattfindenden Equal Care Days. Wichtig zu wissen ist auch, dass die meisten Berufe in der Pflege und Fürsorge gar nicht oder unterdurchschnittlich bezahlt werden, trotzdem oder gerade deswegen sieht man, dass viele Menschen sie aus tiefster Überzeugung und mit Herzen ausüben.
Wir feiern Menschen, ganz besonders die, die für andere Menschen da sind, helfen, pflegen, planen, organisieren, unterstützen und viel mehr. Ihr seid großartig und ohne euch geht nichts – danke!

What does care work mean?
The term is a shorthand for all professions, voluntary positions or private activities that focus on caring and looking after other people. So it means activities that focus on the education and upbringing of children, but also the care of sick and old people or people with disabilities. Those are every-day things and often they are hardly noticed in everyday life, even though they are of such great importance!
Despite this, or precisely because of it, you can see that many people do them with deep passion and conviction.
Equal Care Day actually falls on 29 February. That means it would only happen every four years, whenever it is a leap year. 2022 is not a leap year, so it is celebrated today, on the 1st of March. Sounds strange, but it is quite thoughtful, because: There is an unfair division of labour in care work. It is still the case that 80 % of these activities are carried out by women*, men* only take on 20 %. This means that the ratio of 1 to 4 is exactly the same as that of the Equal Care Days taking place on 29 February. It is also important to know that most professions in care and nursing are not paid at all or are paid below average, nevertheless or because of this you can see that many people do them out of deep conviction and with heart.
