Sustainable Design Consultancy creating Design and System Innovation for a Circular Future of Fashion, founded in 2015 by Fashion Designer Ina Budde

Ina Budde, MA Sustainability in Fashion, is a future-thinking designer for sustainable fashion and founder of ‚Design for Circularity’. With this sustainable design consultancy she realizes circular design and system innovations for labels with the aim to close the loop for fashion. During her studies of fashion design at HAW Hamburg she created numerous award winning collections with different s

ustainable approaches and developed a focus on circular materials and design, circular business models as well as closed loop systems in textiles. She won a scholarship to complete the MA Programme ‘Sustainability in Fashion’ at ESMOD Berlin while developing sustainable collections for innovative labels. To provoke a shift of the current industry structure towards a healthy circular system she developed the EXTENDED CLOSED LOOP model - a system for a circular industry structure that has been selected as one of the innovations of LAUNCH Nordic 2014 and received the NEXT ECONOMY AWARD 2015. Her circular collection FUTURE-PROOF following this model won the lavera Green Fashion award 2015. Besides spreading her EXTENDED CLOSED LOOP model with ‚Design for Circularity’ she gives workshops and lectures on ‚FUTURE DESIGN CONCEPTS - sustainable design strategies in fashion’ at several universities. Ina Budde: "My passion about design is to create elaborate products that have meaning, a long and effective life and an endless value. The current fashion system is not able to hold the created value for ever. It simply ignores the fact of resource scarcity and pushes to increase the consumption without providing a solution for all discarded materials. However up to 70% of the product‘s impact is decided in the design process. Designers take the decision about the whole product‘s lifespan and it‘s destiny. So we have the responsibility to design with a future-thinking life cycle approach. Additionally a system is needed that can use the value intensively and for ever. Therefore I have a strong personal intention to provoke a shift of the current industry structure in order to build an intelligent and healthy circular system. My expertise within sustainability in fashion covers a broad knowledge in various fields of sustainable design strategies, sustainable textiles and production as well as sustainable business and marketing strategies. My personal sustainability approach is coined by the cradle to cradle concept and the vision of a circular economy. Therefore I focus on closed-loop soulutions in design and the business model."

New year, new team and a new expanded circular.fashion system! We’re growing and we hope you will follow us on the way.

Our vision is, and has always been, the same: a cradle to cradle inspired circular economy for fashion and textiles. Throughout the past two years we have discovered countless inspiring initiatives working towards this vision. However, on the way we have realized something important. Initiatives can only catalyze true impactful change if they are visible and worked on collaboratively.

That is why we’re expanding our offer beyond design for circularity, to create an industry connecting platform for material suppliers, fashion brands, consumers and recyclers to collaboratively realize a circular economy for fashion and textiles. By providing a platform with a tracing system of each garment the circular.fashion system will build and share knowledge, tools and inspiration to not only create circular garments, but circular systems of fashion.

The future of fashion starts next week! Meet us at the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin which takes place at Kraftwerk Berlin from the 16th to the 18th of January.
