We understand that not every home will be equipped with unlimited rooms, but that’s ok! Your children just need a dedicated working space (not the sofa or bed). Ideally, they have a desk area, which will encourage better ergonomics, but failing that, the kitchen table works, too, just make sure it’s clutter-free.

I know we're all desperate for more human interaction and less virtual, but for many people it's the only way to socialise (at the moment!)
So between being isolated and having a coffee online, it's better to have someone to talk to even if it's on the other side of the planet!
empathy and resilience

Better connected than isolated

Waldinger said. “My worry is that the people who live alone don’t have others to drag them to events or say, ‘Let’s call up so-and-so.’”

✅Ergonomics & safety first!
What for?
>To reduce neck and shoulder complaints
>To enhance comfort and productivity
>To reduce eye strain

👀Get the right viewing height and distance
>The distance to the screen should be at least 60 cm (one arm’s length),
>The viewing angle is 10-20° below eye level.
>Top side of the monitors to eye level, but no more than 10 cm below it

Move
>Hours in front of a computer screen, can tire your eyes, treat them with respect and care

Blink!!!
>Blink regularly so that the eyes stay well lubricated and do not dry out. Who sit at a computer screen for long periods tend not to blink as often as needed.

Location
>Position a reading light directly into the page, not over your shoulder.

Break!!!
>Rest your eyes briefly every hour or so to lessen eye fatigue
Take regular breaks using the “20-20-20” rule: every 20 minutes, shift your eyes to look at an object at least 20 feet away, for at least 20 seconds.

keep the peace between parents and their little ones while working at home.

A room of one’s own, writes Virginia Woolf, is essential for one’s professional output. OK, perhaps we are paraphrasing, but creating a dedicated space for everyone to work in is essential, and this means for the kids, too.

Don’t underestimate the power of offline play: Bo Stjerne Thomsen, chair of Learning through Play at the LEGO Foundation, notes that “play is the main vehicle through which children grow and learn. It is the foundation for all forms of development and stimulates every part of their brain, enabling them to actively engage in critical thinking, experimentation and wonder.”

Happy Neck + Happy eyes= Happy You!

Monitor tips:

Adjust the monitor height so that the top of the screen is at—or slightly below but no more than 10 cm—eye level.
Position the monitor at least about an arm’s length distance. If your screen is larger, add more viewing distance.
Keep glare down by adjusting the screen position by tilting the monitor back 10° to 20°.

Why?
Is comfortable, plus is minimal stress on your body, and overall eye strain is reduced.

The spaces we work are one of the most important areas to consider.

According to an article by Erin Doland “Multiple stimuli present in the visual field at the same time compete for neural representation by mutually suppressing their evoked activity throughout visual cortex, providing a neural correlate for the limited processing capacity of the visual system.”

You get from a clean desk:
• Reduce stress
• More efficiently.
• more energy and peace from your organised desk.

Yeap! We know it, desk organisation has always been challenging for many of us that work from home or at an office.

Some tips and tricks:
👋Left or right handedness?
>Put the things you use most near your dominant hand, for example your office phone , it helps reach the phone a little easier would have saved some time.

✅Keep only what you need on your desk:
>Only keep relevant and urgent documents on your desk
>How much of that was necessary?
>How much of it was extremely urgent?
>Remember urgently and important are not the same!

✅Need papers, staple, clips, brochures?
>Is it important for your work?
>Do you use it a lot?

✅A desk organizer or desk accessory is supposed to help you stay organized and not to make your office desk look instagram friendly

💡Need a desk lamp?

✅Keep the area immediately next to your computer, free of any clutter.

🖥️Locate your desktop or laptop in front of you ⌨️helps you stay focused and healthy!

✅Sticky notes! Think about it first.
Keep only the most urgent tasks, they are for urgent reminders only.

Be kind and respectful with yourself and others.

Daylight comes best from the side, sit next to the window.

Natural light is a winner to boost your circadian rhythm

Open the windows to ventilate. Oxygen is necessary

21°C temperature is the ideal to keep you productive

Avoid external noise. Sound cancelling headphones could help

Plants, give a nice touch, add colour and raise the oxygen level in your room.

Are you wearing glasses? Check if they are ideal to work with your computer.

Train yourself to blink a lot to prevent your eye surface from drying out.

Laptop: the distance between the screen and the eye should be approximately 50 cm to 60 cm.

Get up in-between, walk around and move your body: Exercise! Exercise! Exercise!

We're not against sitting on the couch from time to time... but think of the heat from the machine to your legs, or your neck and your back.

Stay organised to get things done and stay safe and healthy!

If remote working from home is not for you, be patient with yourself, and use the opportunity to create a pleasant place where you feel perfectly comfortable.

Create an area that you consciously enter and leave, unless it's a place you use for other purposes, and at the end of work you want to put it back with its original use. This way you don’t condition yourself to feel like you are in a work-mode when you actually want to be in a private one.

Stand up, stretch, and move.

Got it?
