"Never let any hatred creep into your hearts." These are the words that are imprinted in my memory. This is what our guide through the Terezin-Theresienstadt concentration camp told us, a group of 18-years-olds, on what was most likely everyone's first visit to a concentration camp memorial site. He was a camp survivor, and led us (a school class from Germany) through the memorial site in a quite matter-of-fact, kind and generous manner. Still on this day, and many times throughout the year, I remember him, and always will.

Happy International Women's Day to all the women in the world. This is the second year since the city of Berlin declared the 8th of March a holiday. During lockdown it's probably not the same for many, but let's say every excuse is good to celebrate something.

Feiertage? Nehmen wir immer gerne! In Berlin soll der 8. März, der internationale Frauentag, schon in diesem Jahr ein Feiertag sein.

San Remo 2020 - my personal favourites 2008-2019, part 5: in the 2013 edition (and maybe one other), the artists performed two songs on the first evening, of which the audience from home had to vote for one song to go ahead in the competition. Without fail, the in my opinion better, in some cases far better, songs were eliminated. One of these was "L'esperienza dell'amore" di CHIARA GALIAZZO. Another artist that has not received the exposure he/she deserves. Sharing it here does not make any difference, but at least I did it. A tiny support for an unjustly eliminated song.

San Remo 2020 - my personal favourites 2008-2019, part 4: one of the evenings is normally dedicated to covers of famous San Remo Festival songs of the past, sung by the participants. Often I don't know the original songs so it is hard for me to judge. This year they made crossover of covers with the duets, which I think was not a good idea at all. Anyhow, I really liked this version of Lucio Battisti's "Il mio canto libero" by NATHALIE GIANNITRAPANI. I had tried to sing this song for a patient and it's not easy. Nathalie brings out very subtle lines and new tiny angles I think. So it's as far as my limited repertoire permits, my San Remo cover #1.

San Remo 2020 - my personal winners of the last 12 years, part 3: the third of five festival evenings is always dedicated to duets: all participants perform their song together with another artist. Of these duets, this one stuck in my mind as very special and very powerful, bringing out new depths of this song by the completely underrated newcomer (and X-factor winner) Nathalie Giannitrapani. Another extremely memorable duet was actually a trio, cited as my all-time second favorite San Remo song: Max Gazzé - Il solito sesso with Paola Turci e Marina Rei https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ01vRSaMVI. I think this year the duet history will be continued, after skipping years - in my case - without discovering new favourites.

San Remo 2020 - my personal Italian charts, second part: a lot of talk about rap, trap, rappers, no melody, they can't sing, etcetc at and around San Remo 2020. And btw Italian rap for decades has been very tame, too nice, too soft. Time to list my favorite Italian rap songs of a more contemporary style that have finally emerged. #1 THA SUPREME: "a swishland". Yesterday, the 70th San Remo song contest started in Italy. It's been twelve years that I've been watching the five-day, five-hours-per-evening (!) transmission. "Watching" means I usually fall asleep after about 1 hour, but over the five evenings even a sleepy head gets to see most of the songs. Musically, it's not my cup of tee (or coffee haha), as I'm more rock, more dark etc than the Belcanto-inspired, inoffensive, Eurovision-type style that leads the way. Needless to say, my favourite songs always end up in the last positions (except Mahmood last year). So I thought I'd give some of my "BEST OF" songs a bit of exposure here over the next days, for what it's worth... This one GHEMON is MY PERSONAL SAN REMO WINNER among the last twelve editions (2008-2019), a bit of Massive Attack, but more elegant, less sombre. In second place #2: Max Gazzé - Il solito sesso.
