In addition to a wide choice of manufacturing processes, materials, and finishes, FACTUREE also offers a broad range of manufacturing solutions.
One of them is prototype manufacturing! ✨

At FACTUREE, prototype manufacturing means more than fast production. Over 2,000 certified partners provide a broad manufacturing network worldwide, a single point of contact guides your project without a supplier change through to series production, and certified quality according to ISO 9001, ISO 9100, ISO 27001, and many other standards secures every part.

Process, material, and finish, all selected centrally through FACTUREE, from the first CAD file to the finished prototype.

The custom part has been tested, production is well-established, and the prototype is up and running. And yet, when it comes time to move into mass production, the procurement process often starts from scratch again.

This is precisely the problem many purchasing departments face. Manufacturing partners are re-evaluated, capacities are reviewed, and terms are renegotiated—even though the component has long since been technically developed.

At the AMB trade show in Stuttgart from September 15–19, FACTUREE will demonstrate at booth EO129 how parts based on drawings can be procured seamlessly from the prototype stage through to mass production. This is made possible by a network of more than 2,000 vetted manufacturing partners and standardized quality processes compliant with ISO 9001.

“Many companies underestimate how much effort the transition from a successful prototype to a reliable mass-production supply chain requires in procurement,” explains Billy Schulz, Head of Sales at FACTUREE®. “The planned volume ramp-up should be taken into account right from the initial inquiry; otherwise, procurement will have to start from scratch later on.”

The collaboration with CeiliX Technology GmbH demonstrates how this works in practice. For its automated overhead crane system, InfinityCrane, CeiliX uses FACTUREE to source high-precision CNC-milled parts, ranging from single units to small batches. FACTUREE remains the central procurement partner throughout all development stages, even as manufacturing partners in the background adapt to the respective project phase.

A prototype that takes weeks to complete often arrives too late. By the time the first model is ready, the requirements have usually already changed.

Rapid prototyping shortens precisely this timeframe. Using additive processes such as 3D printing, subtractive processes such as CNC milling, or replicating processes such as vacuum casting, functional components can be produced from digital CAD data within a few days. This allows for the testing of design, fit, and function before large sums are invested in tooling or mass production.

The philosophy behind it is simple: fail fast, fail cheap. Identifying errors early costs significantly less than correcting them later.

FACTUREE implements this principle for customers such as Ceilix. Through a network of more than 2,000 partners and approximately 15,000 machines, the company produces prototypes for mechanical engineering, the automotive industry, aerospace, medical technology, and other industries—all tested in accordance with ISO 9001.

Today we're continuing our prototyping series! Last week we talked about CNC vs. 3D printing. 🤔

This week, we're shifting the focus to plastic prototypes. Two of the most commonly used processes are 3D printing and injection molding — so that's exactly what we're comparing this week. ✨

Whether 3D printing or injection molding is the right choice for a plastic prototype depends on four variables: quantity, material specification, part geometry, and timeline.

In short:
- Injection molding is the right choice when the material must be production-equivalent, more than 20–50 parts are required, or the part is intended for end-customer testing and market validation.
- 3D printing is the faster choice for undercuts, internal geometries, or early design validation — and when more than three iteration cycles are planned within two weeks.

And much more, of course. Find the full insights in our guide: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0x5tWP0

FACTUREE manufactures drawing-based and precision parts across all stages of development — including the prototyping phase. ✨

Over the past 9 years, FACTUREE has produced a large number of prototypes. One thing has become clear throughout: choosing the right manufacturing process is decisive. ‼️

Whether CNC machining or 3D printing is the right choice for a prototype depends on four variables: tolerance requirements, material specification, part geometry, and timeline.

In short:
- CNC machining is the right choice when tolerances below ±0.2 mm are required, when the material must be production-equivalent, or when threads and mating surfaces need to be machined precisely.
- 3D printing is the faster choice for internal channels, lattice structures, or early design validation — and when more than three iteration cycles are planned within two weeks.

And much more, of course.

Technical drawings and CAD models are far more than just purchase order attachments – they are the very core of your intellectual property. Especially in highly regulated sectors such as defence, automotive, and aerospace, robust information security is a critical KPI in supplier evaluation.

"Design data is your intellectual property. With ISO 27001, we protect it across our entire company – not just in the data centre." – Christopher Walzel, CPO & Co-Founder of FACTUREE
