The devices for the much quoted "Smart Home" don't all have to be electronic / connected / "wired" to add up your flat's IQ. They don't have to be all ugly, either ;-).

It might look like an ordinary wood conference table, but the oak slab absorbs heat and releases it when the room cools down.

If you listened to one of Julia's or Sven's (or both's ;-)) talks during the last time, you were introduced to the idea of "Disconnecting to Connect" already. It's interesting to see this phone fundraiser in that context. It's the complete opposite direction of where we are heading, but motivated by the same observations. Extra credits for the phone stack that you might also know from our talks ;-). Check this stripped down phone that does nothing but phone calls really:

The Light Phone strips away every function of a smart phone for except the one I like using the least: making phone calls.

Thanks re:publica | Fashiontech for inviting us to a keynote about 'The woven Internet - or how the Internet turns into a sixth human sense' - was great to see so many curious people and to have amazing chats about the future of wearable electronics and how we can surf this great wave :)))

Thanks Popakademie Baden-Württemberg for inviting us to talk about "Consuming and producing music in the age of the Internet of Things". Sven managed to spread some maker love at the Future Music Camp. His personal favorite moments were when he asked the crowd how to use his Teenage Engineering PO-14 bass synth properly, resulting in an instant explanation. And more important Adam Stacks (OFFICIAL) jamming the little toy on the amp and speaker setup of the "Music Magnet" start-up that presented their idea to the barcampers (video available on demand). Thanks for having and inspiring us!

Thursday we were introducing the audience of the Reeperbahn Festival to the Internet of Things. Quoting the Gartner Hype Cycle from 2009 to 2013, Sven answered questions by Werben & Verkaufen's Ralph, for example "Why do you think the IOT will succeed this time? The connected fridge is around for over 15 years.". Sven's answer was basically what Forbes wrote about why the Internet Of Things could be succeeding: "[...] dropping costs of technology, a larger selection of IoT-capable technology vendors and the ease of experimenting continue to push trials, business cases and implementations of IoT forward."
