**NEW INTERVIEW** - MENTAL HEALTH

🌫While the grey skies of Berlin are looking “50 shades of bleak” right now, I'm more grateful than ever for the mindset tools I've learned that keep me feeling powerful and connected in these isolating times.

FIVE THOUGHTS ON MENTAL RESILIENCE with EDITION F
********************************

Q: What does mental resilience mean to you?

A: For me, mental strength is built on self-awareness and self-trust, which are two resources I draw on heavily in my work and personal life. Mental strength means taking responsibility for how I live my life: letting my decisions be determined by my wisdom and reason, rather than my circumstances or the agendas of others. At its core, mental strength is the ability to reflect, consider and hold myself accountable for my actions and their consequences.

Q: How does what you believe empower you to keep going?

A: The most powerful belief I possess is the belief in myself. This belief has three pillars: the belief that I have as much right to be happy as anyone else, the belief that I have the strength to endure hardship and the belief in my ability to keep learning and improving at any time. These core beliefs give me the strength and courage to take risks, make bold decisions and shape my life according to my own values no matter what challenges or opportunities life throws at me.

Q: When do you feel you your mental resilience challenged the most?

A: Through experience and a lot of personal development as a coach and RTT therapist, I’ve become better at staying calm under pressure. But stress still occurs when there are too many demands on my time or I am in an environment where honest discussion is not welcomed. This is a big part of why I chose to start my own business, so I could have full control over how, where and with whom I spend my time.

Q: When do you reach the limits of your mental resilience?

A: I work on building a stronger mindset every year, and don’t go looking for limitations. The mind is mankind’s strongest asset and the most powerful way I’ve found to protect my mental health is to always be honest with myself, whilst trying not to judge myself or others too harshly.

Q : How can we protect our mental health in times like these?

A: It is important to prioritise daily doses of self-care through meditation, movement, nourishing your body or decluttering your home. Self-care also requires us to be discerning about the information we are consuming. Knowledge is power up to a point, but gorging on bad news and worst-case scenarios can become an unhealthy compulsion. If certain types of media are raising your anxiety levels and sense of powerlessness, it’s OK to take a break from them. The healthier we are as individuals, mentally and physically, the more strength we have with which to support others. So I invite you to see your self-care practice for what it truly is: an act of service to your community.
