HOW TO CHARGE N2 - 5 STEP RULE 👇

*STEP 1: ZERO HYDRAULIC PRESSURE*
Stop pump. Open drain to release oil pressure to ZERO. Gauge must show 0 bar.

*STEP 2: CHECK PRE-CHARGE PRESSURE*
Check maker manual. Usually 0.9 x working pressure. Steering = ∼90 bar N2.

*STEP 3: CONNECT N2 BOTTLE*
Use charging kit like photo. NEVER use Oxygen. Only dry Nitrogen. N2 = No explosion.

*STEP 4: SLOW FILL*
Open N2 bottle slowly. Fill to pre-charge pressure. Wait 5 mins. Pressure drops = bladder leak.

*STEP 5: LEAK TEST + LOG*
Soapy water test all joints. No bubbles = Good. Entry in log book + tag.

*RED FLAGS*:
- Charging with oil pressure present = Bladder burst = $10,000 damage.
- Using air/O2 = Explosion risk.
- Pre-charge low = Pump starts every 30 sec = Motor burnout.

*BOILER HEART SURGERY* 🫀
This is your burner diffuser plate. It creates the perfect air-fuel swirl for clean combustion.

*Cracked or dirty?* Result: Black smoke, 285°C exhaust, $200/day fuel waste.

*3/E Job*: Check electrode gap 3mm. Clean slots every 500 hrs.

*THIS TINY PART RUNS YOUR BOILER* ⚠️

Meet the Burner Nozzle. It atomizes fuel into a fine mist for perfect combustion.

*Clogged or worn?* Expect black smoke, 285°C exhaust temp, flame failure & $3000/day fuel loss. One speck of dirt = Boiler trip.

*2/E Tip*: Clean the mesh filter every 250 hrs. Check spray pattern. No dripping.

Respect the nozzle. Your steam pressure depends on it.

SERVICE AIR COMPRESSOR - THE UNSUNG HERO OF E/R 🔧

This screw compressor keeps your ship running. From pneumatic tools to control air for valves, it never stops.

Dirty cooler fins = High discharge temp → Oil carryover → Moisture in air lines → Automation failure.

*Pro Tip*: Clean this radiator every 3 months. Check oil level, drain condensate daily.

A healthy service air system = Smooth engine room operation.

We did it, OceanLens family! 🎉
Facebook gave us the ‘Conversation Starter’ badge because of YOUR comments, YOUR debates, YOUR passion for real marine engineering.
This badge is not mine. It belongs to every 4th Engg who argued about fusible plugs, every C/O who corrected me on sounding pipes, every cadet who saved the post for MEO exam.
Next 7 days we go harder. New series: ‘7 Days, 7 Deadly PSC Deficiencies’.

What is this component & why is this damage a MAJOR PSC deficiency?*

A. *Tank Vent Flame Screen*
B. *Sounding Pipe Self-Closing Cap*
C. *Air Pipe Auto-Closure*
D. *Fuel Tank Cap*

95% of 4th Engineers fail this in Vetting. Port State Control will give you Code 17 if they see this.
Comment your rank + answer 👇 I’ll pin the right one + SOLAS rule after 5 hours.

*Hint*: MARPOL Annex I + SOLAS Ch II-1 Reg 26.
