A new life for waste oil – how German technology and Indian passion are boosting the circular economy 🌎

A cooperation project between Lena Neumann from the German company AVISTA OIL and Sahil Bhargava from the Indian lubricant supplier IFP Petro Products is helping to drive forward the circular economy in both countries. Against the backdrop of growing industrialisation, an increasing need for energy, and global supply chains, the circular economy is becoming ever more important as an economic model.

🗣️‘If it weren’t for the programme, we would never have met,’ says Sahil Bhargava, head of strategy at IFP Petro. Patience, trust and a clear understanding of the German business processes were key for working with Lena Neuman from Avista Oil.

Puzzle of Success: How Win-Win Thinking Accelerates Change 🧩

One of the most important change management challenges for modern leaders is: How do I get everyone to work together toward the goal of change? During a change management training organized by Gisma University of Applied Sciences, Ukrainian and Moldovan leaders explored this scenario. Four teams were tasked with assembling a puzzle, with individual pieces sometimes ending up with other teams. In this way, everyone depended on each other—just like departments within a company. The task could only be completed if everyone worked together.

🗣 "That's much easier said than done," says trainer Dr. Julia Moritz. "So far, hundreds of international leaders I have trained tended to do the same: working for their own team and against the others, ultimately causing everyone to lose. Participants usually left the experiment with a slight sense of frustration—and an 'aha' moment. This made the simulation more of a diagnostic experience. Not so with this group. Calm and quick, with clear roles, they completed their puzzles and achieved the common goal. No arguments, no accusations—a record result for each team and for the whole group."

"We followed the motto 'from heart to heart' and were able to find the right path through respect, appreciation, and mutual support," says Yulia Laskava from Ukraine. "The results of the experiment showed us that true leadership doesn't come from control, but from shared enthusiasm and trust," adds Ukrainian manager Olga Snizhko. "We evaluated our experiences and mistakes from previous experiments and were successful in this one," agrees her colleague Vitalij Averkin.

In game and economic theory, one speaks of a competitive zero-sum mindset on the one hand, and a win-win mindset on the other. Whether for their companies or in cooperation with German business partners, what they learned marks a milestone for a successful future.

Mr. Swen Heinemann, a board member of the Integrata Foundation for the Humane Use of Information Technology and CEO of the Human IT Service GmbH states, "The exchange was valuable for us, as we received questions about technology and AI from the perspective of potential customers working in the medical field."

Many members of the delegation expressed strong interest in further cooperation, and follow-up negotiations are now being planned.

Strengthening German-South African Collaboration in Sustainable Innovation 💡

Managers from working in agriculture, manufacturing, energy, digital economy, and robotics are currently visiting companies and start-up hubs across Berlin and Brandenburg as part of .

During their visit to the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) in Potsdam, several promising opportunities for research cooperation were explored. Lungisa Jason Lutshaba, CEO of Analit Africa Co. —a company producing urban-refined 100% plant-based edible oils, organic personal care items, and non-perishable brands—shared plans for a joint project.

“Partnering with ATB will elevate our plans to repurpose our by-products into animal feed and turn waste into value-added materials. The institute’s focus on 90% plant-based packaging will also provide a major advantage in reducing costs and improving the sustainability of our products,” Lutshaba explained.

🤝Prof. Mulugeta Admasu Delele, Senior Scientist and Leader of the Working Group Smart Drying Technology at ATB, welcomed the idea: “The German and South African governments are aligned in their research priorities and offer various funding and support opportunities for industrial research projects.”

🚛Building Bridges in Heavy Machinery: Mongolian Delegation Visits Gebr. Willing GmbH

As part of the Partnering in Business with Germany programme, Mongolian executives visited Gebr. Willing GmbH — a certified welding company that refurbishes, rents, and sells used machinery for the construction, agricultural, and industrial sectors.

🗣"We already have extensive experience with Central Asian countries, and with the help of the BMWE's Programme, we’ve now been able to connect with potential partners in Mongolia," says Managing Director Georg Willing.

🇲🇳Nyamsuren Ganzorig, founder and CEO of Perfect Solutions & Engineering LLC, brings deep expertise in the Mongolian construction sector:"I see great potential for Willing GmbH in , where our construction and mining companies are actively seeking experienced partners for machine customisation and sales. However, it’s not easy to find specialised German mechanical engineering partners. This Programme enables us to identify and connect with high-performing companies ready to enter the Mongolian market."
