Happy World Usability Day! On this annual celebration the whole UX community gets together to talk about current achievements and the impact of interactive products and systems. This year the theme is "Design of our Online World: Trust, Ethics & Integrity". This morning we spoke in Leipzig (yes, in person!) about the phenomenon of dark patterns and how a user-guidance can be interest-driven and unethical. When does the UX toolbox become a bag of tricks and how does user guidance become manipulative? Dark Patterns are business-oriented tactics, that worsen the user experience. They are categorised in disguised ads, fear of missing out, friend spam, hidden costs, privacy zuckering just to name a few. Tell us your last experience within this practice! Have a nice WUD 2021!

We are happy to announce that our design concept for ToolCommander®next is nominated for the UX Design Award! !

Christian Mateit and Dorothee Kaser worked on the modular Software System for our client
Kontron AIS GmbH.

ToolCommander®next visualises and controls machines of various types. For the performance of a machine, the software user interface is decisive, as it is used for manual operations and evaluations. The project goal was to develop a modular software framework with a completely revised user interface that clearly structures complex content and enables user-friendly interaction while complying with industry standards. Service staff, operators and technologists should be able to operate the machine safely and effectively.

Remember our little quiz about the sheep, the bomb and the hawk? What they have in common is SENSYS! In our new column “The story behind” we tell you fascinating stories within the work of our very diverse clients. This first article is about SENSYS ▶️ - and the global work of Application Engineer Gorden. His experiences in Scotland (sheep) and in the United States (hawk) could not be more different.

SENSYS mission is to supply survey devices and solutions for a non-destructive evaluation of areas. They support those whose goal is to protect history, learn from it or to protect mankind while removing the vast amount of explosives remnants of war.

Tomorrow is International Happiness Day!

According to the WHO “health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being (…)”.

Especially being in lockdown and isolated isn’t really happiness boosting, but we all find ways to stay sane. At UseTree we have many backgrounds such as psychology and we`d love to tell you about an interesting theory of mental health.

It is called mental hygiene and goes deeper into how we can maintain our health and prevent mental disorders.

There is one easy little daily task that we can all include in our busy schedules that can actually help put our experiences, thoughts and feelings into perspective.

In the evening before going to bed, asking oneself things such as: What has worried me today? What was I angry about today? Then look at these closer and ask were they: justified, unjustified or reasonable? A simple yes or no is enough.

Then go to the positive and think about three things that made you happy that day. No judgments, any small thing or little experience or thought can be uplifting, according to this science.

Recently we told you about the medical project we did with Siemens Healthineers – today we would like to give you a little bit of insight into how we get to a finished medical product:

Usually when we are starting a new project, we do an intensive examination of the context of use. We identify user-centred requirements and initial risks and usability problems in workshops, interviews, expert reviews and task analyses.

To get rid of the risks and usability problems we test prototypes with new concepts in several iterations. These consist of several formative and lastly one summative testing, that are carried out by the research team at UseTree. Each individual step and all changes resulting from the tests are documented, in detail, in the usability file – one of the requirements to get an approved medical product.

New Case! The importance of health is currently more noticeable than ever. Therefore, we are happy to be part of the development of a new, innovative medical product for radiologists.

Since 2019, we have been accompanying Siemens Healthineers in the development of an AI-based radiology software, the AI-Rad Companion. The software supports users in the assessment of medical images and the detection of radiological irregularities and thus diagnostic precision increased.

Last year, we already reported on our project along with Siemens Healthineers at the DMEA-Europe’s leading platform for digital healthcare. Now, we are pleased that this exciting project also becomes part of our healthcare portfolio on our website - Link in bio!

We all know the challenges we face, especially in the development of innovative medical products. We have to create user acceptance and trust towards new technologies and combine innovative spirit with regulatory requirements. This is a real team task that can only be solved hand in hand.
