The results of our Pricing Excellence Benchmarking Study conducted with 452 companies show:

79% of suppliers believe that they are more expensive than their competitors, while on the other hand only 6% consider themselves to be cheaper.

Quite a contradiction, isn't it?

This example shows impressively:

Far too many sellers believe it when the buyers tell them that they are too expensive. But be honest with yourselves: Whenever would a buyer tell you that you are too cheap? It’s their job to unsettle Sales people and try to get better price offers.

The next time someone tries to convince you that you are too expensive: better be very skeptical. 😉

When you agree you only confirm to the buyer something he might even just bring in to see your response.

4 Mistakes to avoid when you want to raise your prices ❌❌❌

1️⃣ Communicate price increases at too short notice. As markets are not so hot like last year you should grant your customer around 1-2 months lead time. So that he has enough time to adjust. Otherwise, he might feel caught off guard.

2️⃣ Communicate price increases with a too long notice period. 3 or more months are outdated. It gives your customer too much time to negotiate and find always new excuses to reject your offer.

3️⃣ No good justification. Right now the buyers are prepared to battle back and have arguments and facts at hand to justify lower prices. Of course we are still in Inflation environment but you need to proof that. Your price increase should be based on undisputable facts and market trends. If you miss that part your negotiating partner will have great difficulties accepting your new offer.

4️⃣ Set the price increase request too low. Remember that your first signal tells the customer a lot about your confidence level. Also your customer is unlikely to accept your first offer and aims to negotiate with you.
