Die globale Kunststoffproduktion hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten drastisch zugenommen und beträgt mittlerweile über 400 Millionen Tonnen jährlich, was etwa 50 kg pro Person entspricht. Fast die Hälfte davon entfällt auf die Verpackungsindustrie, insbesondere auf Einwegkunststoffe. Weltweit stammen weniger als 10 % der Kunststoffproduktion aus recyceltem Material. In Deutschland werden fast 70 % des Kunststoffabfalls verbrannt, 14 % exportiert und nur 16 % recycelt. Um die Umweltbelastung zu reduzieren, ist es entscheidend, die Produktionsmengen von Kunststoffen drastisch zu senken.

Global plastic production has increased dramatically in recent decades, now exceeding 400 million tons annually, equating to about 50 kg per person. Nearly half of this is attributed to the packaging industry, especially single-use plastics. Worldwide, less than 10% of plastic production comes from recycled materials. In Germany, almost 70% of plastic waste is incinerated, 14% is exported, and only 16% is recycled. To mitigate environmental impact, it's crucial to significantly reduce plastic production volumes.

New product in the making! ♻️🎉

Check out the complete creation in the new Research Update. The Fairmouse has been a dream since the beginning of Johannplasto.

All electronic components come from the Nager-IT association. They are on a mission to make electronics as fair as possible. To this end, they offer the Nager-IT mouse and do a lot of educational work to raise awareness of the problems in the electronics industry (critical raw materials, electronic waste & working conditions).

Since I deeply admire this endeavor, I have been following Nager-IT’s work for a long time, have taken part in a multiplier workshop and have given soldering courses myself. Making the cover for this mouse out of recycled plastic has been a dream for a long time.

The special thing about Nager-IT is the complete breakdown and transparency of the supply chain. From the raw materials to the end product! At the beginning, a minimalist mouse was developed, the components of which also contained as few critical raw materials as possible, such as cobalt, and the components were manufactured under fair working conditions. Over the years, the association has invested a lot of work in checking the working conditions of the sub-sub-suppliers, but this is almost impossible, even down to the raw materials, which is why the presentation of the supply chain honestly shows how far they have penetrated and one can at least say with certainty that the mouse can be fairly rated at more than 70%, which is a major milestone in the electronics industry.

1. Ausschuss: Diese sind so fehlerhaft, dass wir die Klinge vom Griff trennen, den Griff wieder Schreddern und die Klinge für die nächste Charge wiederverwenden. ♻️

2. B-Ware: Diese haben kleinere Mängel wie Einsenkungen, kleine Schnitte oder eine Orangenhaut-Textur. Sie sind voll funktionsfähig, aber nicht so perfekt wie A-Ware, dafür aber zu einem niedrigeren Preis erhältlich. 😎

3. A-Ware: Perfekte Küchenmesser aus recyceltem Kunststoff. 👌

Nothing is wasted! ♻️

1. Fails: These are so faulty that we separate the blade from the handle, shred the handle, and reuse the blade for the next batch. ♻️

2. B-Grade: These have minor defects like sink marks, small cuts, or an orange peel texture. They are fully functional but not as perfect as A-Grade, and they come at a lower price. 😎

3. A-Grade: These are perfect kitchen knives made from recycled plastic. 👌
