Welcome Annette!
---

We are excited to announce that Annette Zschiesche has joined the team as our new Scientist!

Annette studied chemistry at TU Dresden, Germany, where she specialized in analytical (bio)chemistry and mass spectrometry, including projects in doping analysis and Parkinson's disease biomarkers. For her doctoral research in forensic toxicology at the Medical Center of University of Freiburg, Germany, she studied the metabolism and detection of synthetic cannabinoids in biological samples and developed a new analytical workflow.

With her experience in mass spectrometry and method development, Annette brings strong analytical expertise to the Lipotype team. At Lipotype, she will develop and validate mass spectrometry workflows for lipidomics and related omics applications, and support customer projects with hands-on troubleshooting.

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Annette!

Meet us at AAPS PharmSci 360 2026 in New Orleans!
---

Join Lipotype at AAPS PharmSci 360 in New Orleans, USA, from October 25 to 28. The meeting brings together pharmaceutical scientists, R&D teams, and service providers working across drug discovery, development, and manufacturing.

Dr. Alessia Trimigno (Account Manager), Dr. Oliver Uecke (COO), and Dr. Christian Klose (CTO) will be at booth 1438 to connect with the pharmaceutical sciences community.

Lipid profiles can show how a drug candidate affects cellular metabolism. This makes them useful for mode-of-action studies, safety assessment, and biomarker research. Reach out to us to discuss how quantitative lipidomics could support your work.

New case study: Post-menopausal skin lipidomics and niacinamide treatment
---

During menopause, estrogen levels drop, and the skin changes as a result, including increased dryness. Part of this change happens in the skin's barrier lipids, including ceramides, which help seal the skin's outermost layer.

This case study found that after 28 days of niacinamide, post-menopausal skin kept more ceramides than placebo-treated skin, and its ceramide profile moved partly back toward pre-menopausal levels. Across 297 ceramides measured in tape-strip samples, hydration rose by 23% (6 to 11% with placebo), and water loss through the skin fell by 19%.

Lipotype lipidomics enables analysis of individual ceramides from minimally invasive tape-strip samples.

Meet us at SEPAWA 2026 in Berlin, Germany
---

Join Lipotype at the SEPAWA Congress in Berlin, Germany, from October 14 to 16. The congress brings together formulation scientists, R&D teams, and suppliers working on cosmetics, personal care, and household products.

Marta Vicini and Celine Palitza, both Account Managers at Lipotype, will be at booth F801 to connect with the cosmetics and personal care community. Skin lipid profiles show how a formulation affects the barrier. This makes them useful for skin barrier research, product efficacy studies, and claims support. Reach out to us to discuss how quantitative skin lipidomics could support your work.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
---

Every October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws attention to screening, treatment, and support for people diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as research funding. Among people diagnosed with breast cancer, 10% to 20% have triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). This more aggressive form more often affects younger people and does not respond to hormone-based therapies.

Research in TNBC cells and a mouse model shows that reducing the enzyme lipin-1 disrupts phospholipid production and leads cancer cells into programmed cell death, pointing to lipid metabolism as a direction for further research on breast cancer treatment. Lipotype lipidomics enables quantitative lipid profiling to support oncology research.

New publication: Stored fatty acids help macrophages clear bacteria
---

How well the body controls a bacterial infection depends on how fast its immune cells respond, and part of that response relies on stored lipids. A recent study shows that lipid droplets (LDs), small fat stores inside cells, fill up with polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) during infection. Macrophages, the immune cells that engulf microbes, then release arachidonic acid from these stores to drive inflammation and clear bacteria.

Lipotype lipidomics enables quantitative profiling of fatty acid composition across lipid classes in immune cells.

Today is World Heart Day
---

Research on heart diseases is important, as 1 in 3 deaths worldwide are caused by cardiovascular diseases. Major risk factors, such as high blood pressure, often cause no symptoms until a heart attack occurs. Standard blood tests measure a few lipid values, such as cholesterol and triglycerides, but blood plasma contains hundreds of different lipid species.

In a study of more than 4,000 individuals, adding these detailed lipid profiles to genetic and clinical risk factors improved cardiovascular risk assessment. Other research shows that different cardiovascular conditions have distinct plasma lipid profiles.

This year's World Heart Day campaign, "Don't Miss a Beat", draws attention to heart disease that goes undetected. Lipotype lipidomics supports this research by quantifying lipid profiles in blood plasma and tissue, from small studies to large cohorts.

New case study: Lipidomics data analysis - a practical guide
---

Lipidomics datasets bring their own analytical headaches: missing values, hundreds of correlated lipid species, and group differences that are often small next to natural biological variation. Our latest case study covers four methods for working with this kind of data: data imputation approaches, OPLS-DA, enrichment analysis, and WGCNA. It also covers the step that follows statistics: turning results into biological interpretation and the the possibility of using AI for that purpose.

Lipotype lipidomics enables both quantitative data generation and downstream statistical analysis.
