🍃🚁 SAF in Offshore Helicopter Operations: Taking Emissions Even Lower 🚁 🍃

As we announced on Earth Day, our journey towards sustainability continues. We’re delighted to share more about Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and its significant impact on reducing CO2 emissions, exemplified by our partnership with at the Baltic Eagle wind farm in Germany.

🚁 Reducing Carbon Footprint with SAF:
In the Baltic Eagle project, our AW139 helicopters, already known for their efficiency, will now fly even greener. By utilizing a 40% SAF blend, we achieve a remarkable 32% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger per 100 km—further enhancing the 51% reduction compared to Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs).

🌱 Why SAF Matters:
• Sustainability: SAF is derived from non-fossil sources like used cooking oil and other bio-waste materials, which significantly lowers lifecycle CO2 emissions.
• Innovation: Helicopters can currently operate with up to a 50% blend of SAF, with 100% SAF operations on the horizon following successful test flights.
• Impact: Using a 40% SAF blend aligns with global sustainability goals and propels us towards net-zero emissions in air transport.

🌐 Global Commitment:
In November 2023, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) endorsed a Global Framework for SAF and other cleaner energies, targeting a 5% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030. This initiative is key to accelerating the aviation sector’s transition to clean energy, supporting the goal of achieving Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2050, as set by the ICAO Assembly.

🚀 Looking Ahead:
HeliService is proud to fly with a 40% SAF blend for the Baltic Eagle project, supplied by DCC & Shell Aviation Denmark. This is a step towards not only enhancing our operational sustainability but also leading by example in the aviation industry.

We had the great pleasure of hosting the Association of Regional German Airports at the Aviation Park Northsea in Emden.

As the host of the meeting, we were able to provide exciting insights into our work. HeliService presented itself as a company, highlighting key topics such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel ( ), maintenance, and offshore logistics.

A particular highlight was the take-offs and landings of various Leonardo Helicopters, impressively demonstrating how busy our small but important airport is.

🚢🌏 Charting New Paths: The Journey of HeliService’s Helicopter to Its New Home in Taiwan! 🚁

Take a look at the remarkable journey of our helicopter from Emden, Germany, to its new home with HeliService Taiwan in Taichung—a pivotal step in our continuous effort to becoming the strategic partner for offshore wind transportation globally!

🗺️ The adventure began in Emden, where the helicopter was meticulously prepared and secured for its overseas journey. It traveled by truck to Bremerhaven, then embarked on a sea voyage through the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, making stops at:

➡️ It arrived in Taiwan on 23/02-24 and now resides with our partner company, HeliService Taiwan (HST), in Taichung.

🚀 This milestone marks HeliService’s first venture into the region, bringing our core expertise in helicopter hoist operations to one of the fastest growing offshore markets worldwide.

🎯 With Taiwan’s ambitious targets for offshore wind energy development, HST is well-positioned to become a key enabler of this exciting growth and replicate the success of HeliService in Europe. Wir waren auch beim Zukunftstag 2024 dabei und haben gestern 11 Schülerinnen und Schülern aus der Region Einblicke in unser Unternehmen gezeigt. Did you know, that choosing helicopters for offshore logistics can make a significant impact on reducing CO2 emissions? 🌱✈️

Take a look at the numbers comparing Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) and Helicopters: ⚓️🚁

• Our AW139 helicopters emit 0.043 tons of CO2 per 100 km per passenger, compared to between 0.087 and 0.145 tons for CTVs, depending on the vessel. That’s a remarkable 51% less CO2 emissions with helicopters! 📉💨 (51% reduction when considering 0.087 and 0.043)
• Our AW139 helicopters carry 12 passengers at an average speed of 140 knots (260 km/h), while CTVs typically travel between 15 and 25 knots (28-46 km/h) and carry 24 passengers.

In celebration of Earth Day, we’re highlighting the environmental impact of our operations. By choosing helicopters for offshore transportation, we’re not only ensuring efficient transportation but also contributing to a cleaner planet. 🌐💪
