ECON x CEMS Sustainability Days 2023 🌿

As you can see from the name, the focus will be on sustainability.
During the event we will concentrate on renewable and green energy models, such as photovoltaic and battery solutions.
Test your skills and solve a real consulting business case.
We also prepared an intensive Basic Consulting Readiness Training which will help you to gain insights into our daily work.
We invite you to join us in Munich and also enjoy some fun activities in the Zugspitze area ⛷️

Sustainability is one of E.ON’s strategic priorities. This is for us not a vision of the far future, we take action today by an all-encompassing approach to improve already existing structures. Consequently, we introduced our Ecological Corridor Management (ECM) – a group wide approach to maintain and operate our corridors of power grid overhead lines in a more sustainable and eco-friendly way.

We ensure a significant contribution to climate and species protection in our international Energy Networks business by creating valuable biotopes under 13,000 km of our overhead powerlines, which is the equivalent of 100,000 soccer fields.
We are proud of the result and our contribution to making the E.ON network more sustainable with a community committed to achieving E.ONs goals, continuously “thinking ahead”.

The transformation of the corridors will demonstrate real impact. We go beyond “projects on paper” and consider the expectations of E.ON stakeholders like our customers, local community partners, policy makers, and investors to position ECM as a clear win-win.

Together with Harald Heß, Hanjo During, Daniel Bocxe-Meyer, Michael Wahl, Mattias Andolfsson and our E.ON partners at our grid companies we jointly contributed to the success of ECM and its implementation across the regional grid businesses by challenging each other to deliver excellent project results.

Let us introduce you to “Excellence Room”. Overarching goal of this project was to conceptually define and implement one of the main initiatives to enable value-added customer growth.
Center of the project was a holistic customer-journey-oriented analyses of customer information. To reach the best possible outcome we needed to extend the underlying data base and data strategy. It was necessary to induce a cultural change and implement a cross-functional working model for the teams.
As a result, we managed to achieve a clear definition, ramp-up and implementation of our so-called Excellence Rooms ➡ Activation & Retention, Operations Excellence, and Digital Sales Platforms along the entire B2C customer journey.
Best part: the impact is already measurable.
We saw a positive impact on customers, employees and realized double-digit bottom-line effects despite market volatility.
We are proud that throughout the project, we steadily developed into a major impulse-provider towards the entire german sales unit and E.ON leadership. It was a great first-hand learning experience and development opportunity for both, junior and senior colleagues.

At ECON we not only work on impactful projects for our E.ON partners, we also want to create an environment where people can create impact within their own company through internal activities and engagement.

Main goal of our Diversity & Inclusion team is creating awareness around all dimensions of diversity. For us diversity does not stop at gender and nationality but also includes culture, ethnicity, educational background, age, religion, and sexual orientation.

We continuously track and review key numbers regarding diversity to be able to hold ourselves accountable. In addition, we implemented different impulses such as regular roundtable discussions, trainings.

The insights gained by the D&I activities are directly impacting our recruiting approach as well as our performance review framework.

We are happy to share that the personal engagement of our ECONs result in visible changes in how we hire and especially how we develop people.

One of this year’s highlights was for sure the keynote by bestseller author on how the use of language shapes our perception and actions.

Together with CFO Marc Spieker we were also able to broaden the reach of our initiative further within the E.ON group.

Smartification of our energy networks is a key enabler for the successful energy transition. The challenge of integrating and operating many more smart and interconnecting devices while maintaining secure operation of our critical grid infrastructure required to rethink our data and communication infrastructure. We wanted the new infrastructure to connect smart meters, intelligent transformer stations as well as the phones of our service crews in the field, allowing remote meter readings, monitoring and steering of grid assets and exchanging with and between technicians – also under extraordinary conditions.

Teaming up with other grid operators and experts in telecommunication networks seemed the best way! So we formed a consortium and acquired shares in the telecommunication network operator 450connect. Together, we successfully applied for the radio frequency of 450 MHz and started the amazing journey to build an own and fit for purpose radio network.

On the way, we set up a program within E.ON to help formulating the critical business requirements, building up the needed infrastructure (such as radio towers) and to negotiate service contracts with our joint telecommunication operator.

Our two main highlights have been the broad scope for ECON to design and shape the project (from M&A to business & technical topics) as well as the strong interaction with our wide range of partners from E.ON although working remotely, which created a special atmosphere.

Another project, another key building block for Europe’s energy transition: Green hydrogen.

We support E.ON’s hydrogen business in realizing the Group’s strategic ambitions in one of the most important energy sectors of the future.

ECON has been deeply involved in the transformative E2E business development enterprise from the very beginning: We were part of defining the group-wide hydrogen strategy. We helped to localize and detail this strategy for regional markets and to develop targeted customer propositions based on it. Together, we set up the new company E.ON Hydrogen GmbH, which works closely with our group companies in the regions. For example in a cross-functional task force, we drove project management for flagship solution projects. Thanks to the deep trust we got from our partner, we play a key role in shaping and growing E.ON’s hydrogen business.

We are strongly motivated to work side-by-side with the E.ON Hydrogen Team and to build a large-scale decarbonization business to cut CO2 emissions.
