💡 How do you illuminate architecture without contributing to light pollution?
Welcome to the first episode of “Behind the Light”, a new series where Patrick Timmler, CEO of ADO Lights, takes you behind the thinking, challenges, and custom solutions behind our projects.
For the Rudolfplatz project in Cologne, the goal wasn’t simply to light the façade.
It was to emphasise the architecture with precision, while ensuring comfort for the people inside the building and minimising unnecessary spill light.
The concept by a·g Licht focused on illuminating the window reveals to define the rhythm of the façade.
But one challenge remained:
How do you create this effect without glare for the occupants?
💡 The solution was simple, precise, and fully custom:
a black passe-partout integrated onto the glass to further cut off the beam angle and prevent direct glare.
The result?
Light exactly where it’s needed.
No excess spill. No visual noise.
Just a clean architectural statement after dark.
Because good lighting isn’t about adding more light.
It’s about controlling it.
✨ This is how we approach custom solutions at ADO Lights.
