🔥 A Fire Can Change Everything — Is Your Insurance Really Enough?

The situation shown above is a powerful reminder of why having the right insurance coverage in Germany is so important.

Many people have insurance, but the bigger question is:

👉 Does your insurance actually cover the risks you are exposed to?

A few euros saved on insurance premiums can potentially become thousands of euros in unexpected costs after a fire, water damage, theft or legal dispute.

🇩🇪 4 Important Insurances to Consider in Germany

1️⃣ Privathaftpflichtversicherung – Personal Liability

Covers many situations where you accidentally cause damage to another person or their property.

Depending on the policy, it can also cover certain damages related to a rented apartment, such as:

* 🏠 Damage to floors or walls
* 🔑 Loss of keys
* 🚪 Certain damage to rented property

Usually NOT covered by personal liability:
❌ Fire damage to your own household contents
❌ Water damage to your own belongings
❌ Theft
❌ Glass breakage
❌ Simply locking yourself out because you left your key inside

Exact coverage always depends on the policy and circumstances.

2️⃣ Hausratversicherung – Household Contents Insurance

This protects the contents of your home — the things you own inside your apartment.

Depending on the policy, it can cover:
🔥 Fire damage
💧 Certain water damage, e.g. escaped water from pipes
🕵️ Burglary/theft
💨 Storm/hail and other insured risks

Imagine a fire destroys your furniture, clothes, electronics, kitchen equipment and personal belongings.

Who pays for replacing them?

That’s where Hausratversicherung can become extremely important.

3️⃣ Glasversicherung – Glass Insurance

Glass damage is often not automatically included in standard household contents insurance.

Depending on the policy, glass insurance can cover things such as:
🪟 Window glass
🚪 Door glass
🪑 Glass furniture
🏠 Certain fixed glazing

Some policies may also offer additional coverage for mobile phone or tablet display damage.

Always check the exact policy conditions.

4️⃣ Rechtsschutzversicherung – Legal Expenses Insurance ⚖️

Legal disputes can become expensive very quickly because of:

* 👨‍⚖️ Lawyer costs
* 🏛️ Court costs
* 📄 Legal proceedings

A suitable Rechtsschutzversicherung can help cover eligible legal costs, depending on the selected modules and policy.

⚠️ Important: Visa and immigration/residence-related matters are commonly excluded or restricted in many policies. Always check the specific terms before assuming they are covered.

💡 The Most Important Lesson

Insurance isn’t about buying the cheapest policy.

It’s about having the right protection for the risks you actually face.

A monthly premium might feel like an expense.

But the right insurance can protect years of savings when something unexpected happens.

🛡️ A right insurance is an investment in protecting your savings.

🔔 We often think basic insurance policies like Hausratversicherung, Haftpflichtversicherung and Glasversicherung are just another monthly expense.

But when something unexpected happens, they can make a BIG difference. 💶

📱 A recent example from a happy client:

The client’s mobile phone display was damaged.

The insurance confirmed that up to €339 will be reimbursed once the display is repaired. ✅

That means a relatively small monthly premium can protect you from a much bigger unexpected expense.

👉 Small premium today.
👉 Big savings when you need it.

Don’t wait until something happens to check whether your insurance coverage is right for you.

Protect yourself. Protect your family. Protect your belongings. 🇩🇪❤️

The German Health Reform that came into force on 10 July 2026, how it affects customers.

1. Why was this reform introduced?

The government says Germany’s healthcare system is becoming too expensive because:

* People are living longer.
* Fewer young people are paying into the system.
* Healthcare costs continue to rise.

This is similar to Germany’s pension problem.

So the government is reducing some benefits and increasing contributions to keep the system financially stable.

2. Family insurance becomes more expensive (from 2028)

Before

If your spouse didn’t work, they could usually be insured for free under your statutory health insurance (Familienversicherung).

From 2028

Many families will have to pay extra.

The proposal is:

* 2.5% of the insured person’s income
* plus 0.52% for long-term care insurance

This only applies if:

* there is no child under 12,
* no disabled child,
* and no family member with at least Care Level 2 being cared for.

Example

Your gross monthly salary:

€5,000

Additional family insurance contribution:

* 2.5% = €125
* Care insurance ≈ €26

Total about €150/month.

Families with young children remain exempt.

3. Higher income required to switch to private health insurance (PKV)

The JAEG (income threshold) will increase more than usual.

This means:

Some employees who previously qualified for private insurance may no longer qualify.

* check before September 2026
* if eligible, switch to private insurance before the new threshold takes effect.

4. Less reimbursement for dental treatment (from 2027)

The statutory health insurance (GKV) will pay less for dentures.

Government subsidy reduced by 10%.

Current reimbursement becomes roughly:

* 50% standard
* 60% with regular dental checkups
* 65% after 10 years of continuous checkups

If someone has dental supplementary insurance (Zahnzusatzversicherung), they are largely protected from this reduction.

5. Partial sick leave introduced

This is a major change.

Instead of being:

* 100% sick
* or 100% healthy

Employees can now be:

* 25% sick
* 50% sick
* 75% sick

If employer agrees and suitable work exists.

Example:

Someone recovering from surgery could work half days instead of staying home completely.

Sick pay (Krankengeld) will also be calculated according to how much someone is unable to work.

6. Sick pay after losing your job changes (2028)

Currently:

If employment ends while receiving sick pay, many people continue receiving similar benefits.

New rule:

Payment will only equal unemployment benefit (ALG I).

For many people this means receiving less money.

7. Medication co-pay increases

Old:

* minimum €5
* maximum €10

New:

* minimum €7.50
* maximum €15

Patients pay more out of pocket.

8. Homeopathy no longer covered

Health insurance funds will no longer pay for:

* homeopathy
* anthroposophic medicine

People wanting these treatments will usually pay themselves.

9. Skin cancer screening

Routine preventive skin cancer screening will no longer automatically be covered.

Exactly when this starts still depends on further decisions.

10. Mandatory second medical opinion (from 2028)

For certain operations (currently hip and back surgery):

Patients must obtain a second medical opinion.

Without it:

The statutory insurer may refuse to pay.

11. Health insurers no longer need to notify contribution increases

Previously:

Insurance companies had to send written notices when additional contributions increased.

Now:

They are no longer legally required to inform customers directly.

Customers will need to check themselves unless their insurer voluntarily informs them.

12. What BKK Linde our partner company is saying

The company highlights that many of these reductions are already covered by its additional insurance products.

Examples:

* Dental supplementary insurance covers reduced dental benefits.
* BKK Linde already offers second-opinion services.
* They promise to continue informing customers about premium increases.

14. Main message from the author

The author’s overall message is:

Germany’s public healthcare system will provide fewer benefits over time because of demographic and financial pressures.

Therefore, people should prepare early by considering:

* supplementary health insurance (Zusatzversicherung),
* occupational health insurance (bKV),
* disability insurance,
* retirement planning,
* and, where appropriate, private health insurance (PKV).

💙 Who Says Private Health Insurance Is Complicated?

Not when you have the right guidance.

Here’s a real example from one of our clients.

📅 Invoice Uploaded: 17.07
💶 Claim Paid: 21.07

226.53€ reimbursed in just 4 days.
✅ No deductions.
✅ Simple app upload.
✅ Fast processing.

What was covered?

Our client visited the dentist for:
🦷 Professional dental cleaning
🦷 Jaw X-ray
🦷 Additional preventive dental examinations

Total invoice: 226.53€
Amount reimbursed: 226.53€ (100%)

The best part?

This preventive treatment does not count towards the regular deductible under this tariff, and our client still remains eligible for a No-Claim Bonus of up to €4,000 at the end of the year (subject to the terms of the policy).

Simply upload your invoice in the insurance app… and relax. 📱✅

🔔 Why many people choose Private Health Insurance

✔️ Faster appointments (our client got an appointment in just 2 days)
✔️ Comprehensive coverage for many preventive healthcare services, depending on your tariff
✔️ Quick digital claim processing
✔️ Dedicated support whenever you need it

🚨 How is this different from Public Health Insurance?

For comparable dental care, many people experience:

❌ Longer waiting times for appointments
❌ Limited reimbursement for professional dental cleaning, depending on the treatment and statutory insurance rules
❌ Higher out-of-pocket expenses for certain preventive services

🛎️ At Namaste Germany, we don’t just help you choose a policy.

✅ We help you understand your coverage.
✅ We assist with claims.
✅ We support you throughout your insurance journey.

Because great insurance isn’t just about the premium—it’s about the service you receive when you actually need it.

📩 DM us for a free consultation if you’re considering Private Health Insurance in Germany. We’ll help you find the right balance of coverage, service, and long-term value.
