Last year a time like this , my career journey was featured by Pinterest in honor of International women’s day . 🤯

Last year a time like this , The Buddy Program was still just an idea

Last year a time like this ,the thought of me talking about my personal and professional story was gut wrenching but I did it anyway because I was tired of others trying to “humble” me.

And so to women who are labeled
👉🏾Aggressive: continue being assertive
👉🏾Bossy: continue to lead
👉🏾Too much: continue taking up space

Never shrink yourself to meet others at their level of limitation.

Happy international women’s day ! 🤍

When Brenda joined the program back in April 2021, her goal was to land a job, and seeing her thrive in her current role, makes us really proud 😃

👉One of the emphases we put in order to have a successful mentoring relationship is the self-drive that the student needs to bring with them.

🎯The best way to achieve results is, first of all, is to know where you want to go and set a goal.

✅The Buddy will then help you based on those goals to define action items and steps you need to take in order to get there.

💡That way both of you will best benefit from the relationship

👉Studies have shown that recruiters spend on average 5-7 seconds looking at a resume. As scary as it might sound, let's not forget that the recruiters have a very well trained eye and know exactly what they are looking for.

👉So how do you stand out in a sea of resumes given that the time is this limited?

💡One key aspect is ensuring that your Resume is ATS friendly. What does that mean, it means you need to be able to decipher a job description and highlight the key qualifications sought for in your Resume by using the right keywords.

✅If you want to learn more about this and master your job search process, register for our upcoming Career Hour event where we will talk about this and much many more tips. Link in bio.

➡️The two biggest challenges international students face in Germany are language and cultural barriers. On top of that, is the lack of clarity around the job market prospects after university.

💡But imagine having someone to guide you and give you tailored advice on how you could best navigate. Someone with whom you can confide in, whenever you have questions.

✅That's exactly what the Buddy program aims to achieve. To bridge that barrier of uncertainty after university. Olta's story is proof of the positive impact of the Buddy program.

🎯If you are an international student in Germany and looking to break into the job market after uni, then apply for the program and we will match you with a professional of your target industry. The application starts on the 1st of February and ends in mid March.

➡️Most students graduate with the notion that their degree is what will get the job. Unfortunately, that is not the reality of things.

🎯One of the biggest goals for the Buddy program is not only to match students with professionals in their target industry but to also offer students a platform to network and build a professional network.

☝️This is an extremely important aspect that we try to emphasize through workshops and events.

💡Why? because, wherever there is a human element in any decision-making process, eg which candidate to choose, the selection process is entirely not rational (i.e not 100% based on merits eg grades). People are much more likely to hire people they are familiar with. It's in our nature as human beings.

So how do you go about building this network as a student?

👉Connect with people you are genuinely interested in
👉Schedule informational interviews via with people you genuinely care to know their story
👉Think of what you can bring to the table (Curiosity, interest in the field, motivation, drive, are also things you can bring to the table) you don't have to be the subject matter, expert.

You can do it!😃

We officially ended the second round of the Buddy program last week and we are absolutely thrilled to read such feedback from our student participants. 😃

When Ariane joined the program back in October 2021, her main goal was to gain clarity around her career. With the help of her Buddy, she was able to achieve this. For us, this is proof of how positive of an impact having a support system can have.

Our next intake starts in April 2022 and the applications will start on 1st February. Application link: https://the-careerlounge.com/buddy-program/
