🎭 Role-plays are not outdated just because learning becomes more digital.
Many companies still test competence with quizzes, knowledge checks, and multiple-choice questions.
That can show what people know. But it rarely shows how they act in real conversations.
This gap matters in sales, customer service, and leadership development. Because conversations require timing, confidence, empathy, and the ability to respond under pressure.
Digital role-play simulations can make these moments easier to practise, observe, and improve.
Before replacing role-plays with another knowledge test, L&D teams should ask:
✔️ Does the situation require behaviour, not just knowledge?
✔️ Do employees need to practise objections, conflict, or sensitive customer questions?
✔️ Would immediate feedback help people improve faster?
✔️ Are competence gaps difficult to see in standard tests?
✔️ Can realistic scenarios bring training closer to everyday work?
✔️ Should practice be scalable across teams, locations, or skill levels?
